Summer break has officially started here at my house. The last day of school for us was last Friday. I’ve been looking forward to summer break as much as the kidlets have. While my garden has been planted for a while now, I’ve been lacking in keeping up with the overall maintenance and care that it needs. I’m hoping now that summer is here, I’ll be able to get a few extra minutes here or there to spruce up the garden. As a part of the Walmart Moms, I was asked to try out some new Black and Decker garden tools that Walmart carries in their stores.
When the samples arrived at my house, I was anxious to see what was in the box. The first thing that stood out to me was that all of the tools were painted in beautiful, vibrant colors. The first tool I wanted to try out was a cute, “mini” shovel. But the question I had was, what do you do with a mini shovel? Dig mini holes?? After talking with my friend and fellow Walmart Mom, Jenn of Frugal Upstate , she suggested using it to fill up pots. It was an “aha moment” for me, and I knew just what project I wanted to try it out on. And sure enough, Jenn was right, the Black and Decker mini shovel ($7.97) was the perfect size to scoop up large amounts of potting soil to place into pots for planting.
Next, it was onto trying out the Black and Decker ByPass Pruner ($5.97). I’ve been putting off trimming the overgrown parts of our trees for a while. The ByPass Pruners were probably my favorite tool that I tried from Black and Decker because of how quick and easy they were to use. I don’t have much hand strength but I was able to trim off small branches that were starting to grow at the base of our trees pretty easily.
My husband’s favorite tool to use in the garden is the Black and Decker Telescopic Cultivator Hoe ($6.97). With the twist of the handle one can make the tool longer or shorter depending on what your needs are. I like that it is two tools in one. I could see using this tool when I’m planting seeds.
Now that we’ve mentioned a few tools to tend to the garden, what about watering? Black and Decker also has two tools to make watering your plants a little easier: the 8-Pattern Spray Nozzle ($7.97) and 30″ Aluminum 9-Pattern Water Wand ($10.97). Both of these sprayers I was able to attach to our hoses with no problems. The 8-Pattern Spray Nozzle is one of my favorites because I can adjust the speed of the flow of water right on the handle. The 9-pattern water wand with its long handle is great for reaching taller plants (I’m a little on the short side).
Overall, I think the Black and Decker tools are really nice. I love that they come in fun colors. We have a purple theme to our gardens so I like that these tools come in purple as well. These tools feel very sturdy in my hand. I hope to be using them for many gardening seasons to come.
