There used to be a time when I would spend hours in the kitchen every single night making delicious meals for my family completely from scratch. Knowing that eating out is not budget friendly, I try not to let our busy schedule prevent us from having those home cooked meal most nights. One way to avoid eating out is by stocking our pantry with quick and easy meal ideas that take very little time to prepare but still taste like I spent hours in the kitchen.
Often when I’m out of quick meal ideas at home and I’m pressed for time, I make a stop at my local Walmart while running errands to pick up quick meal ingredients versus pulling up to a drive-thru window. Whether it is something as simple as a Marketside Take and Bake Pizza or just picking up a few fresh ingredients to complete our meal, I know that I’ll be able to find what I need to make dinner simple at Walmart in the same amount of time as it would be to take a trip to a local restuarant.
As a part of the Walmart Moms, I was asked to recreate a Simple Meals idea from Walmart and share how I make it work for my family. I choose the Ultimate Cheddar Broccoli Chicken Helper for my family because we love to whip up a meal containing pasta for our quick meals. To make this quick and simple dinner idea, you’ll need the following ingredients:
(prices from Walmart)
- Ultimate Chicken Helper: Cheddar Broccoli– $1.98
- 2-3 small, fresh broccoli heads- $1.78/lb.
- 1 lb. Traditional Rotisserie Chicken – $4.98
- Great Value Steamable with Sauce Frozen Corn in Butter Sauce- $1.68
- Sister Schubert’s Dinner Rolls– $3.47
- Land O Lakes Honey Butter Spread– $1.98
Did you know that Walmart had rotisserie chickens available daily? They are warm and ready to pick up for any quick and simple meal. I love these because they cut down on my cooking time drastically. They are so versatile that you can make many different meals from them. To begin our Cheesy Chicken and Broccoli Pasta Dinner, start by deboning the rotisserie chicken from Walmart and cut into cubes. Add the chicken to a 10 inch skillet then add in the hot water, milk, seasoning mix, and pasta according to the Chicken Helper Ultimate instructions. Heat on medium-high heat, cover, and reduce to a low simmer for 7 mins. Cut the broccoli florets from their stems and add to the pasta mixture. Cook the remaining 5 minutes covered.
While the chicken pasta mixture is cooking, heat the rolls according to the package directions and prepare the corn in the microwave according to its instructions.
After the Chicken Helper Ultimate Cheddar Broccoli has finished its cooking time, complete the dish by stirring in the cheese packet. Serve alongside the steamed buttered corn, and warm Sister Schubert’s dinner rolls.
This entire meal takes about 15 to 30 minutes to prepare. Thanks to the pre made rotisserie chicken from Walmart we were able to cut down our cooking time and eliminate a step in the cooking process. The fresh broccoli added to our cheesy chicken pasta not only adds more flavor but also added nutrition. The steamable butter corn and premade dinner rolls is as simple to prepare as heating up in the oven or microwave and also completes our meal.
