I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season and taking some time to enjoy spending time with friends and family. It’s hard to believe that it is already time to begin celebrating a new year to come but also reflect on this past year’s experiences. With each holiday and season I typically make a wreath for my entry door and for years now I’ve wanted to make a New Year’s Eve wreath that I could hang up for the month of January. So today as a part of the Walmart Moms I will show you how to create a New Year’s Eve wreath using products found at Walmart, some of which you may already have on hand. This project features colors and textures that are typically found on New Year’s Eve night. I chose black, white, and silver as my color scheme but also think that gold would be a great accent color for a New Year’s Eve wreath as well. Also, when I think of New Year’s Eve I think of dressing up in fancy clothes watching the clock as it ticks down to the second of the beginning of the New Year so I tried to incorporate some of those elements into the wreath as well with bits of eye catching sparkle.

When I saw the black mask and top hat ornaments at Walmart, they immediately made me think of New Year’s Eve and I knew they would be perfect for a New Year’s Eve wreath. This is the time of year when Christmas decorations go on clearance so it’s the perfect time to pick up these items at a discount and use them to craft a fun New Year’s Eve themed wreath. At Walmart, I loved how the ornaments are sectioned off by color so it is easy to pick out ornaments to coordinate with your wreath’s color theme. However, one can also use ornaments from your own Christmas tree and repurpose them into a wreath with just a few additional items from Walmart. If you are unable to find ornaments to fill your wreath, check the party section at Walmart for New Year’s Eve themed decorations like masks or party hats that can be added to your wreath instead.
How to Make a New Year’s Eve Wreath
Lay your floral foam wreath on your work surface. Take the white feather boa and begin to carefully staple the feather boa along the inside of the floral foam wreath. If you don’t want to use a stapler or the staples aren’t holding the feather boa in place on your wreath you can also just place a small amount of hot glue in different spots around the inside rim of the floral foam wreath to hold the feather boa in place. Once the entire inside rim of the floral foam wreath is lined with the feather boa, cut off the excess with a pair of scissors. Do the same exact thing to the outside rim of the feather boa, hot glueing or stapling the boa in place in random spots. I used about 5-7 staples on the inside and outside of the wreath to keep the feather boa in place. You don’t have to glue or staple the entire feather boa in place just random anchor points is enough as the feather boa is rather light.
Once the inside and outside rims of your wreath have the feather boa attached you will notice that the fullness of the feather boa will hide just about all of the green from the floral foam wreath. Also you will notice that there will be easy access to the floral foam between the trim lining of the feather boa. Before glueing anything, begin placing the ornaments and various New Year’s Eve decoration you may be using around the wreath to see how the final wreath will look. Once you have a good eye on where you want everything placed you can then begin hot glueing the items to your wreath making sure to hot glue to the floral foam between the feather boa trim not onto the feather’s themselves.
What I did was I first took some floral wire and the black ornament chandelier. I ran the floral wire underneath the feather boa and twisted the two ends of the wire together to suspend the chandelier in the center of my wreath. I cut off any excess wire and pushed the ends up into the floral foam to hold it into place. Then I began hot glueing the poinsettia clips into 3 places on my wreath. I really like the clip poinsettias because it gave me a clean surface to place my hot glue that I then held in place onto an exposed area of the floral foam wreath between the two feather boa trims. If you are unable to find clip poinsettias, Walmart has a great floral section that is great for crafting. Look for glittery, metallic eye catching flowers that you can remove from the stems and hot glue to your wreath. Next, I arranged the additional glitter clips by hot glueing them underneath the poinsettias so that they looked like they were coming out of the poinsettias themselves. When hot glueing to the floral foam wreath, remember to glue directly to the foam itself between the feather boa trim (just move the feathers out of the way to make a clean space and hold there for several seconds to allow to cool and dry completely before allowing the feathers to move back into place). Once all of my floral and glittery accents were in place then it was time to place the New Year’s Eve themed decorations (ornaments). Just like with the clips, I placed a decent amount of hot glue to the back of the ornament and hot glued them onto the floral foam directly between the feathers. Once all of my New Year’s Eve themed decorations were glued into place I allowed it to sit undisturbed for several minutes to allow for all of the glue to dry completely before I hung it up on my door using a metal wreath hanger.
I love the way that this wreath turned out. It reminds me of New Year’s Eve night and that is exactly what I wanted it to do. I also liked that this is a fun craft that one can to do that can reuse ornaments from Christmas either from your own collection or new from Walmart. I love DIY wreath’s so much because they are easy to customize them to your own unique tastes. You can make a wreath like this as full as you want based on the products you find in your local Walmart store. Just have fun and get creative.
