As much as I love my makeup collection, the trouble of finding a place to store and organize it can be quite a challenge in a small space. My bathroom counter tops are pretty much non-existent so keeping my makeup in our bathroom simply is not an option for me. I always dreamed of having a beautiful vanity where I could get ready for my day so I created a “vanity” space as a part of my L-shaped office desk. The main area is for my computer and the little side part is where I get ready in the mornings. It is just the perfect size to put on my makeup but it is small.
As a part of the Walmart Moms, I was challenged to organize an area of my home on a budget. As I looked at the makeup spilling out all over my desk area, I knew that I had to get that area under control. So today I’m going to share with all of you exactly how I organized my makeup in a small space using affordable products that can be found at Walmart.
Makeup bags are great for travel but when it comes to everyday use they can be a bit challenging and frustrating to use. Many times products are lost in the bottom of the bag or just simply can’t hold everything in one bag. So my goal when organizing my makeup was to be able to easily see all of the products that I had yet keep it as small and compact as possible for a small space.
I’ve been dreaming of clear acrylic organizers for quite some time now. But have you seen how much they cost? Some of them are pretty pricey. So I was quite excited to find that Walmart has clear acrylic organizers in their stores. In my Walmart store I picked up the Caboodle Cosmetic Counter Clear Acrylic Storage for $15.97. This organizer is small enough for a small counter top yet big enough to hold a lot of everyday products. There are various sized compartments built into this organizer that makes organizing all of your makeup products a breeze. From brushes to eyeshadow palettes, there is a place for everything. I use this organizer mainly for products that I use every single day. So I have my makeup brushes and favorite eyeshadow palettes plus other every day items like eyeshadow primer, eyeliner, and such all neatly organized.
Next, I wanted a way that I could display the lip products that I had so that I could easily pick out the shade that I wanted. Often times I would forget that I had a product or a particular shade so I would either never use it or accidentally purchase the same exact product a second time. Since I am a very visual person, it helps to be able to see the products all neatly arranged so I can remember what I have and don’t have in a particular shade. To display my lipsticks on my vanity I picked up two of the Caboodles Nailed It! Clear Acrylic Organizers $4.97 at Walmart. I realize that these acrylic organizers were designed for nail polishes but since I already have a storage solution for nail polish in place I thought these would be great for lip products as well. With the clear organizer, I’m able to see what shade of lipstick I have right off hand without having to hunt for them in a messy makeup bag each morning which has been a huge time saver. For smaller tubes of lipstick or gloss I’m able to get two products in one of the divided compartments.
I have a lot of makeup. Maybe more than the average person so I did need a tiny bit more additional storage so I picked up two small Sterilite 5-drawer plastic storage towers ($8.77/each). With the additional makeup that I had, I divided it up and used each drawer as a different category. For example, on the left side I have face powders in my one drawer, BB creams in another, blushes in the third, bronzers and highlighters in the fourth, and additional lip products in the last drawer. On the right side, I have concealers, mascaras, eyeliners, single eyeshadows, and a place to put my makeup wipes in the 5 drawers. I love having a place for everything in its own neat little drawer so I can easily see what products I have.
I love how much more organized my vanity is now with the use of a few small organizers from Walmart. I am able to see all of the products that I have so they get used a lot more frequently.
