Can one eat lunch for free?

Mar 30, 2006 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Commercial Break, Freebies, Shopping

In fact you can, as me and my best friend found out today.  It all started about 11ish when she arrived at my house for our coffee date.  We try to have a coffee date once a week, hubby takes care of the p-nut for a couple hours and I get a much needed Starbucks caffeine/ just hanging out with my best friend fix.  So after she bought me coffee and a piece of their banana nut loaf [she owed me lunch, so I opted for coffee instead] and sat around chatting a bit we decided that we were going to take full advantage of my little slice of freedom away from the house and kids, so we went shopping!  Our first stop was our favorite store in the city, a discounted department brand type store, then we headed over to where we used to work to see old friend and for me to find p-nut some baby sunglasses.  After stirring up old memories we headed over to Sam’s.  Sam’s is like a Costco if you don’t know.  Well by this time we were pretty hungry.  As we were walking around and our tummy’s were growling we stumbled upon the most wonderful site…FREE SAMPLES!!!  Oh how I do love a free sample.  Well we didn’t just stop at one.  There were 4 old lady’s in a row each giving out different free samples.  There were slices of turkey meat, steak and cheese burritos, sausage patties, and chicken patties.  So we made our first round, and gobbled up every last bite of our freebie goodness.  When then decided we were still hungry, so we opted for a second round.  We walked around the aisle so it would look like we weren’t just there for the food, but in all actuallity I think we really were.  Anywho when we were coming up on the chicken patties for the second time, the old woman had magically disappeared and left her stand and free chicken patty samples unattended.  Well lets just say we helped ourselves.  With the chicken patty tray completely bare, and our tummys slightly full we decided to head to the check out.  Walking towards the exit I spot another unattended sample stand out of the corner of my eye.  I make a B-Line straight for it.  Bingo!  Ramen Noodles!  What a way to finish off our free meal.

So from today I got a grande caramel machiatto, a slice of banana nut loaf, a pair of baby boy sunglasses, and a lunch…what did I have to pay for all of this…only $3.50 and that was for the sunglasses for my baby boy.  How cool is that!

In other news, a good friend of mine for many many years, called me today out of the blue and so we should be attempting to hang out again soon.  So score one more on the friends front.

I also started preparing my garden to be planted in.  My mother helped me drain the pond [we are going to plant stuff in it instead of it having water in it, for fear that p-nut might fall in], and de-weed my little gardens so that they are already to be planted in.  I went ahead and put down the wildflower seeds in the garden that has really bad soil.  I didn’t want to waste money on good plants and they just die if I plant them over there.  The wildflowers will get probably as tall as me so I really don’t care if they grow or not I just didn’t want it to be bare or that I didn’t attempt to grow anything over there.  I can at least say I tried.  My mother also gave me some of her pansy’s and a butterfly bush that I planted near the door.  I can’t wait to get some more plants.  I hate walking outside to a bare flowerbed and empty hanging baskets.  As for the growing my own edibles, I was thinking of planting carrots and strawberries along with my parsley.  Those things I do know that I will eat and get lots of use out of.

Well that is all for today.

Our first Playdate

Mar 27, 2006 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Commercial Break

P-nut & I had our first playdate last Saturday afternoon.  The girl that I met was fairly new to the area and didn’t know much about our city.  Her son is 10 mos. old so he is a little bit younger than p-nut.  But in a couple months they will be able to play with one another.  P-nut kinda played by himself, but every once and a while he would go up to the little boy and just stare at him like why aren’t you running around…lol.  He loves babies though.  She is a great girl and I enjoyed getting to know her.  It is just so great to finally meet someone that is a Mommy and roughly the same age as me.  I don’t have many friends outside of the net and none of them have babies yet so when the opportunity arose to finally meet one, I jumped at the chance.  I must admit I was little nervouse about meeting her for the simple fact that I am kinda shy until you get to know me, but I pushed my emotions aside and just “went with it”.  At first I was scarred that she wasn’t going to show.  But she eventually did and we had a great time.  She isn’t a stay at home mom like me so we are going to have to meet up on her off days which is alright with me because I apparently have all the time in the world.

I neglected to take photos of our new found friends.  I have “mommy brain” and sometimes just forget about stuff like that.  I told her the next time that we meet up to remind me to take some photos.  So if you were hoping to get some photos I’m sorry.  The best part about the whole thing is that she is relatively a hop, skip, and a jump away, so we didn’t have to drive forever to meet one another.  We practically live in the same neighborhood as one another.

On another note, my best friend just had her one year anniversary yesterday so here is a shoutout to her.  I hope ya’ll had a wonderful day and many more great years together.  Congratulations!

And so its Monday…I have some hella cleaning to do but I just can’t get motivated.  I cleaned and reorganized my closet last week, so that is done with and out of the way.  But I have 2 baskets of clothes to fold, hang, and put away; as well as 2 more baskets to wash & dry.  I hate laundry and I’ve come to the conclusion that I will never like doing laundry.  I’ve tried, believe me I’ve tried more times than I can count.  It is just one of those things that I despise doing.  I will do everything else before I attempt to get started on the laundry part of my day.  Then the clean laundry will sit in baskets on the couch for days just starring at me wondering when I’m going to fold it.  I suppose I hate laundry because he seems kinda counter productive to me.  As soon as I fold it and put it away it is back in the dirty clothes hamper and then cycle continues all over again.  I have this dyre need to plant.  It is practically spring here in my hometown and the look of vacant flower beds are driving me insane.  All last week it was in the 60’s and 70’s during the day but then we were having frost warnings at night.  It is supposed to be in the 80’s this week and 40’s to 50’s at night, so I think today is a fine day to go and price plants.  I want to get some flowering plants and also I was thinking of planting some edible plants.  Last time I was at the grocery store I bought some curly parsley to grow so that I would have my own little herb garden.  I’m thinking of getting some chives as well since I know I use those two herbs the most.  I have this idea to take a bird bath and plant some plants in it so that I would have plants on the ground and in the little bird bath.  I don’t know if I want to plant the herbs in the bird bath or just some flowering plants but I believe it will turn out real cute.  I don’t know what vegetables or fruits I could attempt to grow, I guess I’ll try to figure that out today whilst I’m out.

Well I suppose I better get off this thing and get myself ready.  *poof*

I’m not dead…

Mar 24, 2006 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Commercial Break

Indeed I am still alive, so ya’ll can stop worrying. Spring has sprung in my hometown, so me and the p-nut have been spending alot of time outdoors. I’ve been preparing my garden to do some planting as soon as the threat of cold temperatures are over with. Also, their is a festival going on in town, and we’ve been going to many of the events that it has to offer. With all of the extra activities outdoors and the lack of use in the sunscreen department, I have gotten my first sunburn of the year and have now acquired as a result a nice tank top tan [I look like a farmer].

I also have some new furniture in the house, hand-me-downs from my grandmother, but new none the less. I have a new tan couch with a lounge on the end of it and a 5 piece dinnette set. I was in desperate need of a kitchen table and chairs seeing how all I was using as a table in the kitchen was an old fold down card table. Now me and the p-nut can have our meals during the day there instead of in the living room in front of the tv. Hubby isn’t one for actually sitting at a table to eat supper so it will take a little coaxing on my part to get him to use our new table. I’ll post some pictures of the new items some time tomorrow hopefully [if the p-nut lets me have some computer time].

I’ve been doing a little bit of spring cleaning as well since “the bug” has bitten me. I’ve gone through p-nuts clothes and given all of the clothes that he can’t wear or that it has become to hot to wear to Goodwill. I am planning on going through my closet as well before the week is over with. I also came across this Clorox Anywhere Spray stuff the last time I was at the grocery store and let me tell ya I’m in love. I think I’m a little addicted to this product too, because I find myself spraying it on everything. On the box it says that you can even spray it on your child’s pacy…how crazy is that? It is great to spray down p-nuts highchair with, so I definately would recommend moms getting this stuff, it is just great!

Has anyone tried those Banquet Crockpot Classics?  I caught them on a buy one get one sale last week at my local grocer and they are pretty good.  I got the beef stew and the chicken pasta one.  We had the beef stew some time last week and the chicken one tonight.  Although they are a little pricey at $5 a bag, I wouldn’t buy it again unless I had a coupon, a really good sale was going on, or if it was a buy one get one kind of thing.

Anywho, that is enough rambling for one day.  Off to bed for me. Night *poof*

Website Review

Mar 10, 2006 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Commercial Break, Product Reviews

MercilessMinx reviewed my site and this is what she had to say…
italk2much.png
I know I signed up to be “smacked” so I have no right to complain, and even though I only got 1 out of 5 smacks I’m pretty happy with my review. She couldn’t find much to pick at me about, petty things really is all she could find. She liked my layout, which is great because I like my layout as well.

She doesn’t like the fact that I put thedomesticdiva.org on my title. To that I have to say that the reasoning behind putting “thedomesticdiva.org” as my title is a way for my visitors to remember my url. I find myself remembering peoples urls when they put .org/.com./.net/.whatever in their titles. I want people to remember my url so that they can return or tell their friends about this site whether or not they are at their home computer. If you aren’t at your computer and don’t have the bookmark, how would you remember the site? I can recall peoples titles lots of times, but that doesn’t necessarily reflect whatever their url is. I often get frustrated when I can remember the persons title of their site but since it isn’t somewhat related to their url, I can never find the site again. I don’t know the exact number of how many times you have to repeat something before you actually remember it but that is what I’m going for. I want you to remember the url, not be able to get it out of your head, tell your friends about it, even have dreams about it. What is the point of having a site if no one ever visits it or comes back for that matter?

Ok, I don’t think people actually know what a blinkie is. I do NOT have blinkies on my site. This is a blinkie…. Image hosting by Photobucket [slightly annoying if you have too many]… this is not… [this is called a graphic, people, get it right]. As for the calendar, it comes with f ‘in wordpress, everyone that uses wordpress most likely has a calendar. It isn’t blinking or anything so what is the big deal! Most of the graphics that are on this site were made by me unless I have stated otherwise. I am very proud of all of the hard work that I put into making them and I am going to display my hardwork proudly so get over it.

As for the link back buttons, don’t toot your horn too much, you aren’t the first site that has come up with the idea of providing a link back code for visitors. And to answer your question of if people actually do use them, yes they do and love them as I’ve been told countless times.

I really was expecting to have new one ripped for me, but this review was tame and managable. In fact I wish it was a little better, more critical even. But I suppose that was the best that, MercilessMinx , could come up with.

Product Review: Vital Radiance

Mar 4, 2006 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Product Reviews, Freebies

So a couple weeks ago, I signed up for a free sample of vital radiance. This makeup line is geared towards older women, but I figured I will eventually be old one day so I might as well try it out now. What difference could it make?

First I took my little sample pack out of the envelope and examined it very carefully, making sure to read all of their helpful advice for my aging skin.

vr.png
After fully educating myself about the product I proceeded to take a shower so that I would have a clean surface to work on. Step 1: apply the smoothing face primer. I really liked this face primer, it gave a nice “clean slate” to work with. It wasn’t heavy at all. Think tinted moisturizer.
vr1.png
Now that my face has been primed, let’s move on to the good stuff, the moisture covering compact makeup. Unlike the primer, this compact makeup is extremely heavy and gunky. It felt as if I were putting spackle on my face. Now if I were to have older skin, that means I probably would have wrinkles, this makeup would probably define every wrinkle that I possibly have. I’ve used liquid foundation in the past, but never have a used a foundation so heavy before. It feels as if it is going to run off my face at any moment. You can forget about getting hot, this gunk will come right off if you do. I definately don’t recommend it to anyone.
vr2.png
Well now that my face has its “mask” on, time to use some powder to set the foundation in place. Since the gracious people at vital radiance did not provide a powder to try I had to use my own. So for the powder step I turn to my trusty friend mineral veil by bare escentuals. If you don’t know, mineral veil is a translucent powder that sets the foundation in place.

Now to finish the rest of my makeup and hair…
vrfr1.png vrfr2.png vrfr3.png
My Review: xxx

I gave this makeup line a 1 out of 4 for the simple fact that the only product out of this line that I would think about buying is the Smoothing Face primer, for the simple fact that it could act as a moisturizer and give me that little bit of extra coverage before I apply bare minerals. After using bare minerals I can truly tell the difference in liquid foundation and the powdered mineral foundation, but this liquid foundation is way too heavy for anybody, any age, any skin type. If you were to live in a very humid climate this stuff would melt right off. Please save your money and invest in bare minerals, this is not a good buy.

freestuff.gif I found some more free stuff for you guys. This time it is GUM! Who doesn’t love gum. The awesome people over at dentyne are giving away free samples of their dentyne soft chews. So what are you waiting for, go get some free gum and some sweet smellin’ breath.
