We have a new system in our house called the TV time box. I use this box with my oldest son, p-nut, to reinforce positive behavior. If I let my Husband or my son control how much television they watch, P-nut would be glued to the tube all day long. So that is where TV time comes in. TV time comes with a box, tickets worth 15 minutes of television time, plus a fifteen minute timer. Each time my child does something good like help with the chores, help with the baby, or does something on his own that is positive I will reward him with a 15 minute TV time ticket. He can then cash in the tickets later on throughout the day to watch one of his favorite shows like “Super Why”. We also use the tickets as a means of controlling how much computer time my son has. He loves playing his educational games on the computer but just like the television that could take all day so, we have him choose whether or not he wants to use his TV time for television or games on the computer.

I used this for my daughter and found it to be very empowering for her - plus the best part was my role is her life was no longer saying NO to everything. I like the computer time use, I will try that!
