When I tell people that I had my oldest son fully potty trained by the age of two that are often shocked. They always ask me how I did it and honestly besides his willingness to be a big boy the Huggies Pull-Ups training pants really helped him get a grasp on the whole potty training issue. Why pull ups? You might ask. Well with the Huggies Pull-ups line they have something called Cool Alert which gives your child a cool sensation when it is time for them to go to the bathroom. With Cool Alert it gets them to listen to their bodies and understand that when this happen that is the time that I need to go to the bathroom.
Another tip of mine is approximately thirty minutes after they drink something get them to try to use the bathroom if they go then reward them. We let my son pick out his favorite candy and each time he made a trip to the bathroom successfully we would reward him with a special treat. Also, always make sure your child goes to the bathroom before he goes to bed to ensure that his bladder is completely empty so it will keep the chances of accidents to a minimum. Also to help prevent accidents at night, pick a time approximately two hours before bed where that is the last chance for the child to drink something. This give the child ample time to eliminate whatever he drank throughout the day giving you an accident free night.
I hope my little tips have helped you on your quest to having a fully potty trained toddler. I know before too long I will be on the quest as well and I wish you all the best of luck. I often tell fellow parents that potty training is perhaps the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life next to giving birth. Potty training can be so stressful that it just makes you want to pull your hair out.
If you would like some more tips you can get a Free potty training DVD from the Huggies Pull-Up website.
