Final Headshot for Walmart Money Saving Moms

So many of you voted on which headshot that you liked the best. Thank you so much for voicing your opinions and telling me which headshot you thought looked the best. I had people emailing me, direct messaging me on twitter, and of course commenting on the headshot post that it was almost impossible to keep track of all the votes but they have been tallied. I’m sure all of you are anxious to know which headshot I choose and why.

With all of the votes in, there was practically a tie between Headshot #1 & Headshot #6 with Headshot #7 coming in a close third. But we have to have a winner and that winner is…..

Headshot #6

Headshot 6

When I originally saw the headshots, I knew #6 would be a winner especially after my father started to edit it. After I got my hands on the photos, I thought to myself well, Headshot #1 might be a possible winner as well, which you all have proved. I was stuck on deciding whether or not I should choose #6 or #1 when I created the original blog post. Little did I know that writing that blog post would make my decision that much harder because everyone loved the two that I loved! Crazy. But with the votes we were able to determine that indeed #6 should be the one.

Why is #6 the winner? Well for one simple fact it got more votes, and by more I mean like two more votes than #1. Another factor was that I know everyone else is going to take the same type headshots and being the funky mom that I am, I have to be a little different from the group (as if the reverse mullet wasn’t evident enough) to stand out amongst the crowd. Besides the editing job that my Dad did on this photo is just awesome! But if I have (I say that gritting my teeth) to go the “traditional” route then I will go with #1 as my backup but for now I’m sticking with #6.

Thank you so much everyone that voted! You’ve really helped me out a lot.

Help Me Choose a Headshot for Walmart Money Saving Moms!

Ok, I told you all about my makeover the other day. Well, along with the makeover came a photoshoot in hopes of finding the perfect headshot to represent myself in the HUGE Walmart Money Saving Moms Campaign that I am so lucky to be apart of. Who better to perform the photoshoot than the best photographer that I know, my Dad. Now I could have chosen to take my own photos since I’m fairly good at taking my own photos but I wanted to give my Dad a chance to show off his photography skills besides you get a better look to the photos when you have someone else taking the picture instead of yourself trying to do it all. We had fun taking the photos and of course the end result will be amazing.

So now it is YOUR turn! Help me decide which photo should be the representation headshot for “the Domestic Diva”…..

Reverse Mullet: Emo, Scene Haircut Makeover Courtesy of Walmart

Oh, what a day, what a day! It all began with an email informing me of a makeover courtesy of Walmart in honor of being one of the Eleven Moms chosen to be the “money saving guru’s” for their youtube channel that will launch next week on September 3rd! So what is this big makeover for? Professional Headshots!!! Walmart wanted to treat all of us, Eleven Moms, to a makeover and professional headshots for use in the upcoming Money Saving Community. We were all so excited to hear the news and quickly began booking our appointments for hair, makeup, and photo shoots.

Like many others, I haven’t been to the salon in quite some time. In fact the last time I visited a salon was when I was preparing to go to California for the Sony Mommy Blogger Event. Yes, it Walmart Sponsored Makeover: Not your Typical "Mom" Haircuthad been that long. But you know what, I’ve been busy moving house…well, that is what I tell myself in order to get through the day with my unkempt hair. Not anymore! Now I’m rocking my new “reverse mullet” and loving it. Did you just say “reverse mullet”? I sure did! That is what my hairstyle is technically called because I’ve got long in the front and super short in the back. The short in the back allows me to go all business like if I so choose or spike it out for a more fun, punky look. But you know what, ever since I originally cut my hair into this style way back at the first of the year, I must say that it is the best, most flattering hairstyle I’ve had in years. This hairstyle is definitely not your typical “mom” look and has a bit of an edge to it which I totally love. Also, never in my life have I had more compliments on my hair from perfect strangers than when I have my hair cut into this hairstyle. So rock on “reverse mullet”….rock on! You make me look beautiful every single day.

Walmart Makeover: The HaircolorDid I mention the color? Yes, I got to have my hair professionally colored for the first time in five years. The last time I had my hair “professionally” colored was way back in the day when I was attending cosmetology school. I typically color my own hair at home because lets face it, I don’t have an extra $90 laying around to blow on haircolor so the cheap $15 box o’ haircolor does the job for me. It felt so good to be pampered. We went with a platinum blonde and red hightlighting on top of my natural base color. I think the color came out great. Little did I know that it would take 3 hours for a salon to color my hair. Good grief! I had the “flat ass”, that is the syndrome you have after sitting for a long period of time and your butt goes numb, bad by the time I left the salon.

After getting my hair done, I got some headshots made for use with the Walmart Campaign. I will wait and show you the headshots, as well as tell you who took the photographs later on.

So tell me, what do you think of my “reverse mullet”?

Special Thanks!

To my Mom for sitting and taking photographs of my long, drawn out 3 1/2 hour beauty ordeal. You’re a trooper!

To Ms. Paula, my hairstylist, who took me from drab to fab. Who didn’t hesitate when this quiet girl came asking for a wild, crazy punk haircut. You do fabulous work, Paula, and are such a joy to be around. Thank you so much! Remember, when I become famous I’m taking you with me!!! I can’t imagine having anyone else styling my hair.

Get your Desperate Housewives Fix Before the Season Premier

Desperate Housewives: The Complete Fourth Season is about to hit DVD collections everywhere pretty soon and if you are a die-hard Desperate Housewives fan you’ll definitely want to add this box set to your collection. We all remember the scandals, shocks, and downright dirty deeds of all the housewives in the Fourth Season which makes this one of the best seasons to own on DVD.

Desperate Housewives is one of my favorite Television Series and I honestly can’t wait until the fall premier of Season 5. Who is your favorite housewife? I like Lynette because she seems to be really down to earth and the most “real”.

One of the best features of the box set are the bloopers. Here you can check out one for yourself…

I Want That!

Desperate Housewives: The Complete Fourth Season hits shelves wherever DVD’s are sold September 2nd!

Float Like a Butterfly, Sting like Muhammad Ali!

Muhammad Ali: Made in Miami is a documentary that everyone must see. Get to know the man behind the gloves in a film dedicated to the great Muhammad Ali. I unfortunately wasn’t alive during Ali’s fighting days but I still love to hear stories of this great man’s life. I remember in the ‘96 Olympics in Atlanta, GA seeing Ali carry the Olympic Torch. It was such a great moment to see such a great legend carrying our Olympic Torch.

Through watching this film, I learned even more behind this great man. I loved seeing all of the original footage and interviews from the 60’s. I also loved seeing how Miami really did shape the man that we know today as Muhammad Ali.

I Want That!

Muhammad Ali: Made in Miami is currently on DVD! Snag a copy for your collection.

Get Crafty with Craft Magazine

Are you a person that enjoys creating things? Do you have a need to create or recreate? Have you checked out CRAFT: Transforming Traditional Crafts magazine yet? You haven’t? Why not! This magazine is fabulous, full of interesting, neat ideas to help you get your craft on.

I like to think of myself as a crafty person but rarely find the time to actually create something by hand. Although since having the Craft Magazine lying about, I find myself rummaging through the pages looking for ideas to spark my craft desire. I love how this magazine gives you step-by-step instructions on how you can recreate the crafts that they are showcasing on the cover of the magazine and throughout. On a recent edition, They taught you how to take your old converse hightops and turn them into a pair of knitted ones. So cute and looks pretty easy to do as well.

All you crafty crafters out there need to subscribe to this magazine! It is perhaps the best craft magazine I’ve stumbled upon to date!!!

Girl Gourmet Cupcake Maker: Who doesn’t love cupcakes?

cupcakemaker

Jakks Pacific Girl Gourmet Cupcake Maker is perhaps the best kids cooking tool available to date. The concept behind the Cupcake Maker is to engage kids in creating delicious treats that they will love to share with all of the members of the family. The cupcake maker is so easy to use, fun, and educational believe it or not. With the cupcake maker you interact with your kids in a fun way creating delicious treats together. The instructions are easy to follow and the results are delicious!

Even though the Pacific Girl Cupcake Maker is geared more towards girls, that doesn’t mean that my sons didn’t enjoy testing out this product. In fact, since we tried out hand at making cupcakes they have been begging to make some more!

My favorite part of this cupcake making kit is that it only takes 30 seconds in the microwave before you have a fully cooked mini-cupcake. Anyone that has ever tried using other kid cooking toys out there would know that this is awesome! Most kid cooking toys take a long time for the kids to cook and when working with kids this can be a real challenge since they aren’t always as patient as they should be. I love that Pacific Girl Cupcake Maker took into consideration the patience of children and made a product that taste delicious but can also be produced in a very short amount of time.

I Want That!

At about $30 the Jakks Pacific Girl Gourmet Cupcake Maker is a great present for any girl or boy. Also, Jakks has a Girl Gourmet Ice Cream Sandwich Maker Ice Cream Cone Mold kit to help you and your little one create ice cream sandwiches together!!!

Adult Diaper?

Have you ever thought about what it would be like when the time comes and we are subject to wearing an adult diaper? No matter how much we may fight or resist the idea sooner or later we will be at the point in our lives where adult diapers will be apart of our daily attire. I remember after giving birth to my sons, having to wear those ginormous hospital sanitary napkins that felt like a mattress between my legs. I could barely stand to wear those things while I was in the hospital, I couldn’t imagine having to wear a similar type item for the remainder of my life. But I suppose it is something we must all face, I just hope my adult diaper days are faced a long time down the road.

Swimsuites: Buy at the end of Summer for Super Savings!

Swimsuit season is almost over which means that clearance season on awesome swimsuits is upon us. The best time to rack up on some hot swimsuits for next year would be right now when the prices are super low! Being after season clearance is how this Diva stays fabulous and frugal. You better believe I’m hitting all the stores right now racking up on all the summer trends that I love at an unbeatable discount, clearance price.

Vacation to Branson

Ah vacation! We all want one. We all crave for one. But many of us can’t afford to have a vacation right now even if we really wanted one. Despite the hard economic crisis, that doesn’t mean that you can’t go on a fabulous family vacation. All you need to do is be money savvy in the activities that you choose to participate in.

For example, let’s say you want to take a vacation to Branson. For less than $500 a couple can experience all that Branson has to offer for 3 days and 2 nights. The vacation packages are great for families because you can customize all your needs and still receive a great discount. There is tons to do in Branson that you just might have a hard time choosing which events to attend. If you are on a tight budget and can’t afford to visit all of the museums and entertainment centers, don’t worry because Branson, Missouri has some beautiful parks that you can visit and many of them are free!!!

I Want That!

Right now the website I mentioned above is having a contest where you can win a vacation to Branson! So go ahead and try your luck at winning that vacation you’ve been drooling over.
