When the Labels Dont Fit
When the Labels Don’t Fit: A New Approach to Raising a Challenging Child by Barbara Probst, MSW, LCSW is a book that I have really been enjoying reading over these last couple of days. The book starts out with having you take a survey of your child’s behavior and based upon your instinct answers gives you the best approach with dealing with your child’s specific needs.
As soon as I got this book I immediately began filling out the survey, I was very anxious to see what this book could tell me about my child. I think many times today, parents want to find out what is “wrong” with their child instead of finding out what unique “characteristics” your child has and learning how to deal with them. Not all children have something “wrong” with them they are just built differently and being such require more attention or less depending on the situation. It is hard for me to explain how this book can help your situations because I am not in your shoes but I would suggest giving it a look over. Our society is prone to diagnosing differences, so this may be an alternative option for your family. This book takes the situations you might be dealing with when raising your child, finds the source of the frustration, and helps you learn how to teach and enjoy their unique being.
