This week in Momertainment: Revolutionary Road, Taken, Valkyrie, Defiance, S. Darko

Revolutionary Road is our first movie this week in Momertainment. Revolutionary Road has two of Hollywoods hottest actors, Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio. I’m sure we all remember those two in the movie Titanic, some years back. This time the two are married trying to make it in the 1950s. This engaging film hit DVDs on June 2, 2009. Great chick flick for ladies night.
My husband and I had a “at-home date night” where we watched one of the latest DVD release, Taken (Single-Disc Extended Edition). This movie was great. Lots of action and suspense. I was hanging on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next. My husband couldn’t stop raving about how good this movie was. I believe his exact quote was “that movie was awesome!”. Definitely a guy recommended movie. This movie held my attention quite well. For those that don’t know this movie is about a man whose daughter gets kidnapped while visiting Paris and his quest to get her back. Good story.
I read lots of mixed reviews about the movie Valkyrie (Single-Disc Edition). Some people liked it while others didn’t really care for it at all. Maybe it is the fact that some people don’t like Tom Cruise but for me I still like the Cruise and all of his hotness *grin*. My mother and I went to go see this movie when it was out in theaters. And to this day I still enjoy it now that it is on DVD. I guess this movie is all about your personal taste but I thought it told the story pretty well.
There are a lot of great “history” type of movies out this week. Another one that released this week is Defiance with actor Daniel Craig (think 007). This movie is based on a true story of Jewish Partisans trying to survive during the Second World War. This movie is filled with rich history of three brothers called the Bielski brothers.
The last movie on our list of Momertainment for the week is S Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale (Widescreen). This movie was a bit on the weird side. Other reviews didn’t favor this film so much. After doing some research apparently this is a sequel to another film. It was interesting to say that I watched the film just not sure if I see this one as a must-own type of movie, probably better as a renter. I was a bit lost throughout this film since I had not seen the previous one, which probably explains me scratching my head most of the time going “what?”. I think the actors did a pretty good job and the overall “mystery” about the film was interesting. I’m sure if I had seen the previous one, I would have understood it more since there does seem to be a few “missing pieces”.
So I want to know….
