Our Trip to Pine Mountain

20 January 2010 10 Comments Disclosure

If you have been keeping up with my tweets lately one would know that I have been away for the last few days. My Mom decided to take an impromptu trip to Pine Mountain, GA. With the need for company she asks for me and my family to tag along.

My only request when going on trips is access to the internet. One would think with an iPhone it wouldn’t be that hard, well guess again. I had about one bar of cell reception and if I stood still (& didn’t breathe) I could get Edge internet (which is equivalent to dial-up in cell phone speak). Basically I’ve been disconnected. Not a good look for an avid tweeter and blog lover.

Despite my lack of electronic necessities, I had a good time bonding with my DSLR. I don’t pick my camera up as much as I would like but when I do it’s just like riding a bike.

We stayed in a Cottage on the mountain and had the chance to visit Callaway Gardens because January & February are FREE for admissions.

I still have some more photos to process but wanted to give you guys the head’s up on where all I’ve been and what I’ve been up to.

Your photos are breathtaking gorgeous! I’m glad that you managed to have a good time, even if you were disconnected. ;)

Your photos made me drool, and I believe I will be adding a DSLR to my wish list! :) I’ve always been into photography, but never really committed, since we’ll be having kids soon, I’d love a good camera to get good pictures while they grow up. That’s a good reason don’t you think. :):):)

@Jenn, LOL thanks. Disconnected isn’t a good feeling but I did have a chance to relax a bit.

@Jacklyn, you should check out Me Ra Koh. I had the opportunity to learn from her while I attended the first ever Sony Mommy Blogger Event in California (I also received my DSLR there). She is the one that helped fuel my passion for photography. You can read about my experience in the Sony Mommy Blogger Event category for stuff like how Me Ra Koh actually liked my amateur photographs :) I will say that the DVD’s that she offers “Refuse to say Cheese” really helped me a lot on taking photographs of children. They are exactly what I learned from her in person.
You can check her out on facebook. Oh wait, here is one of her latest projects: Soar with Me Ra. Her portfolio is simply breath-taking. Ok I’ll stop raving about Me Ra.
A dslr is totally justified to photograph kidlets ^_^. If you are really into photography I think a dslr would rock your world. When I got my dslr I wasn’t really into the photography scene. My dad is a photographer and I just typically took snapshots with a point and shoot camera on occasion but after I figured out how to actually work a DSLR my whole perception of photography changed. I like how the DSLR has challenged me to become a better photographer. Hopefully one day my photographs will make my Dad proud as I follow in his footsteps.

@drea, the geese stalked us the entire time we were at the cabin. If we walked outside they came flying across the lake just to say Hi…LOL. The boys had to tell their goose friends bye before we left it was the cutest thing. I mostly shoot with the Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD macro 1:2 lens….I love that thing, I can get my far away shots and my close macro shots as well….the best of both worlds. Here is a photo of my teeny tiny lens collection.

@drea, Oh and btw I was really close to the geese, I could reach my hand out and touch them if I wanted too. Like I said, they liked to be all up in our business…lol

I was going to say… the sharpness in the photos for you being far away would of been insane LOL. Ive used the canon L zoom lens (forget the exact name but its the big time wedding zoom lens that cost like 2K)… and that lens is fantastic but wont give macro detail like that.

    Thats cool tho!
I want a new zoom lens for trips w/ the family (I dont use them for my business…) so ill def check into it.

@drea, the other photos like the butterflies and birds of flight at Callaway Gardens are taken with the lens zoomed out to give you an idea. There was another photographer at the Birds of Flight show at Callaway Gardens that had one of those huge white lenses to get photos of the birds in Flight, I drool over that lens. I wish my Dad’s lenses (i think he has a canon) fit my camera but they don’t so I can’t borrow to play :(

Glad you had fun in Pine Mountain! We used to live in LaGrange (the closest town there with a Starbucks). My in-laws still live there. I love that area, but it is definitely too country for me. Callaway Gardens is fabulous! I’m hoping to go at the end of the month to take advantage of the free admission! If you ever get a chance to go again… you should go at Christmas time. They have a thing called Fantasy in Lights… absolutely gorgeous to walk or drive through the park with millions of lights! :)
