We all know that the sun’s rays can be not only harmful but damaging as well. But in the summer “the glow” is in. I personally have very pale skin and whenever I do go out in the sun two things usually happen (1) I get more freckles most noticeably on my face (2) I get a nasty sunburn. My skin is just not made for the sun and I’m not comfortable with all the risks involved with sun exposure.
We’ve already been talking a lot about summer nails, so today to compliment that DIY mani-pedi I thought I’d share another beauty tip with you guys on how I get that summer skin without the harmful rays.
There are a lot of self-tanning, bronzing, and gradual tanners on the market today that it can be a bit confusing. Today I’m going to share what I like to use and what works for me.
Gradual Self-Tanner Lotion: This is the tanner I would use everyday, especially in the summer time. This gradually gives your skin a bronzed glow. I was surprised when I saw at Walmart that their Equate brand has come out with a similar product to the most popular national brand.
Daily Facial Moisturizer: Along with the daily gradual self-tanning lotion I would also apply the daily facial moisturizer as well. This gives your face a glow over time as well as a daily spf 20.
Self Tanner Towelettes: Out of all of the self tanning products on the market the one I’m most comfortable using is the self tanner towelettes. Yes, the self-tanner cremes or gels with the built in bronzer that allows one to see where it is applied is convenient I find that they typically end up not looking the prettiest in areas such as the back of hands, elbows, knees, and ankles. These areas often pose a problem for self-tanner users because product tends to become too concentrated there. With the self tanner towelettes I can light brush these stubborn areas to add a bit of glow without worrying about build-up.
- Always exfoliate before applying. I know this step can be a pain but it the finished result is so worth it in the end. Use something like a homemade sugar scrub to help smooth out the rough areas on the skin.
- Don’t rush. Take your time! Rushing can lead to streaks and missed areas, so pick one day a week to have an at-home beauty day. Do your nails, apply your weekly self-tanner just make it fun and make it all about you. It’s like a spa day but at home and budget friendly.
- Keep up the routine. Creating that perfect summer glow can take a lot of work in the beginning which is why it’s best to keep up the routine in order to not have to start over from scratch. My routine is fairly simple and it’s what works the best for me which goes a little something like this: weekly I apply the self-tanner towelettes and then daily I apply the self-tanner lotion and facial moisturizer which helps to flawlessly cover up any mistakes or missed areas from the weekly self-tanner treatment. But everyone skin and schedule is different which is why it’s best to figure out what best works for you.
