Football Shaped Cake for Football Season (sponsored)

30 September 2011 2 Comments Disclosure

Do you really need a reason to eat cake? Yes? Well it isn’t someone’s birthday but what if I were to say that we were just going to watch football. Is that a good reason to eat cake? No? Ok, well what if I said that it was shaped like a football?

Football season is in full swing at our house. Every time a game is on just about every television in the house is turned on. Hubby wouldn’t dare miss a second of a game.

As a Walmart Mom, I was recently challenged by Walmart to share our football inspired food. In our house we are big on cake so I thought what better way to satisfy our sweet tooth and celebrate our love for the game than with a football shaped cake. Besides we need some sort of dessert after all of the typical football food must-haves. The football shaped cake is a lot easier to make than one might think.

Football Shaped Cake

1 pkg. oreos, crushed (ours were the football shaped kind, but it doesn’t matter what shape the cookies are in)
1 box yellow cake mix
1 can milk chocolate frosting
1 can of ready-to-pipe white frosting (this just saves time and cleanup but a regular piping bag and plain white icing will due)
Milk (we like to use milk instead of water in our cake mixes)

Bake cake according to package directions in sheet pan. Once baked and fully cooled, with a sharp knife (be careful) cut the sheet cake into the shape of a football. Discard leftover pieces (or eat as a snack in my case). Frost with chocolate frosting. Cover with crushed oreos. Then add details to the cake using the white frosting to resemble a football.

Do you typically make dessert with your football day spread?
