Hair Talk: Taming the Frizz
Since beginning my adventure to loving my curly hair, I’ve been looking for ways to tame my frizzy locks. The part I hate the most about my curly hair is how unpredictable it is. Some days I’m definitely rockin’ a good hair day while others I want nothing more than just to put it up into a messy bun and forget about it.
For little over a year now I’ve been searching for products that would help my hair situation. And so far I’ve come across only a couple of products and techniques that have given me the best results (read: the most good hair days). Today I thought I would share some of them with you all and if there are any curly girls out there that have any tips, techniques, or products they love feel free to share them in the comments of this post as I would love to know about them.
Products to Tame Frizz
The first product that I saw a significant difference in my hair with was the new Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy line of shampoos and conditioners. I first tried this product as a part of the Walmart Moms. Clear won me over when I started noticing that my hair wasn’t dry and straw-like anymore, it actually felt soft! So much so that in the first couple of months of using it I literally couldn’t not stop touching my hair. As you can probably guess I haven’t gone back to any other shampoo or conditioner since trying Clear. I will admit though I think the price tag is a little pricey for a single bottle but with the $2 off coupons I’ve seen in the paper it makes the product much more affordable. Coupons and Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy make me happy.
The next product I found out about in several different ways. I’ve been hearing a lot about Argan Oil from beauty blogs and friends then started noticing that some of my favorite haircare brands started adding Argan Oil to their product lines. One of my favorite hair care lines is Garnier Fructis. I heard, through their Facebook Fan Page, about the Sleek & Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment made with Moroccan Argan Oil and just knew I had to try it. The best part about this product was that out of all of the Argan Oil products on the shelf, this was one of the least expensive brands. The beauty of Argan Oil is that it absorbs instantly to condition the hair without leaving it oily. I apply this directly to my wet hair straight out of the shower before I “plop”. My hair loves this stuff!
Techniques to Tame Frizz
I leave my hair “plopping” in my husband’s t-shirt while I get dressed and apply my makeup which is about 30-45 minutes. The t-shirt is the key, I don’t dry my hair with a regular towel.
Avoid hair dryers and flat irons. On days when my hair is a frizzy mess due to all of the humidity outside it takes everything in my power not to pick up the flat iron. So on the days that my curly hair is particularly unruly I just wear it in ponytail or messy bun.
Let it air dry. This cuts down significantly on the time it takes me to get ready but at the same time it takes twice as long for my hair to air dry than it would if I were to use a blow dryer. The problem with a blow dryer however is that it makes my hair very frizzy. On those days when I have very little time to get ready and have used the blow dryer to “speed up” the air dry time, even on the lowest setting, I’ve always regretted it due to the frizz factor.
What is curly hair story? What products or techniques work best for you?
Disclosure: this is NOT a sponsored post. I’m just sharing what has worked for me in my hair care routine which is forever changing. My results may not necessarily be the same as yours as all hair types and textures are different. I am not a expert just a diva who loves beauty products :)
