Help Walmart #fillthetruck for Local Kids

The holidays are all about giving. And this year, Walmart is making it easier to give to local kids in need with ‘Fill the Truck’. In Walmart stores across the country volunteers may be seen standing outside with a Salvation Army truck or a cardboard truck may be seen in the entrance of the store encouraging shoppers to help ‘Fill the Truck’. Participating is easy, simply purchase a new toy while shopping and place it inside the truck when leaving the store. The Salvation Army will then take all of the donations and gift them to local children in need. While the ‘Fill the Truck’ donation box may be available throughout the season in Walmart stores, select stores will also hold special events with the next event happening next weekend: 12/13-12/15. Maybe your store will be participating?

With the help of Walmart, the past couple of years we’ve been able to help give back as well. This is an activity that I love to get my boys involved with. There aren’t many times when we get to shop for a little girl. But the boys surprisingly loved finding toys to help make a little girl’s Christmas just a little bit more special. So with the giftcard provided, we went to our local store and found an empty ‘Fill the Truck’ donation box. The boys got excited to see the truck and even more excited to help shop for toys to help in filling the cardboard truck.

We found a variety of toys that the boys thought would make great gifts for both boys and girls. To help make our dollar go a little bit further we found several toys that were marked down from their original price. Our goal was to donate as many toys as we could with the giftcard we were given.

After we were done checking out, the boys were so anxious to add them to the truck. Of course, I had to snap a photo of all the action that was happening. On the car ride home, my youngest said to me “I think some kids are going to be really happy this Christmas”. I think they will be too, little one.

I would like to encourage all of you to give a little this holiday season whether it be through Fill the Truck at Walmart or in another way.
