Hard Candy is a brand that I haven’t had a chance to talk much about. However, Hard Candy is a brand that I’m definitely a fan of. I just love unique and fun brands that love to stand out. Whenever I take a trip to my local Walmart, I definitely look to see what is new with Hard Candy not only in makeup but also in apparel as well (I’m in love with that camo sweatpant set).
One of my holy grail, must-have at-all-times makeup products by Hard Candy is their SO Baked Bronzer in Tiki. Why this is called a Bronzer, I do not know because it is not very bronzy but definitely very sheer and glowy. I use this product every time I apply makeup as a cheek highlight. I just can’t get enough of that candlelight glow it gives my skin. So when Hard Candy asked if I was interested in trying out some of their newest products, my interest was peeked! I love seeing all of the newest makeup products and trends that are hitting the drugstore shelves and looking forward to seeing what is new from Hard Candy.
Hard Candy sent me just a few products to test out and try for myself, so those are the ones I will be telling you about today. The first one is a glitter eyeliner called Take Me Out Liner. The shade they sent me is named “Notorious”. It’s a beautiful purple shade with flecks of silver glitter. Purples look great paired with blue or green eyes, I can definitely see using this on my lower lash line for a pop of color. As far as application, it applied well gliding over the skin. I liked that the sparkles are noticeable yet not too over the top. When smudging this liner, I would smudge it out with a similar colored eye shadow as some of the color was lost when I tried to smudge it with my finger.
You all know that I love to paint my nails myself in the comfort of my home at least once a week. I was interested to learn that Hard Candy also carries a line of various polishes that are rather unique. There is a variety of different chrome, glitzy, and confetti shades to choose from. One of their newest additions to their nail polishes are Pop Art Nails. These are great applied on top of a favorite color to add a unique matte polka-dot look to an accent nail. To get the matte dots just where you want them, use a toothpick to pick up the dots from off of the brush and then apply to the nail but a random scattering of dots can be achieved by just applying like a normal polish over top a dry base coat of color.
The Hard Candy Sheer Envy Shine-Free Primer is unlike any other primer that I have tried before. It definitely had a drier texture to it. It was also a bit difficult to use on its own or maybe it doesn’t like to work well with my skin type but it was hard to apply. When rubbed in this primer would pill up so I found that pressing it into the areas I need a bit more coverage was better. But the best way I found to apply this primer was by actually mixing it with a BB cream before applying it to my skin. Some BB creams tend to leave me with a lot of shine so mixing it with the Sheer Envy Shine-Free Primer made it a bit more matte and also made it easier to apply the primer to my skin. If matte isn’t your thing, there are also other primers available by Hard Candy that aren’t mattifying like their color correcting or perfecting primers (I’m adding those to my personal list to eventually try).
The Single & Loving It eye shadows just have a fun name to them, don’t they? Single eyeshadows are great for travel and these are on-trend with their marbling of colors. The sample I was sent is called “Low Rise Jeans” and when all of the colors are swirled together it makes a very pretty blue color that would look great as a liner underneath the eye on the lower lash line. However, there are also other shades available as well. I think “oink!” and “Sandy Beach” are great starter shades as they are a bit more neutral. For another pop of color, “grape dane” is a beautiful purple color. These shadows can be used swirled together or with a small shadow brush the individual colors can also be used on their own within the single shadows.
Have you seen the ombre’ lip trend? Basically it’s a darker color on the outer edges of the lips with a lighter shade in the center of the lip. Hard Candy has made it easier to rock the ombre’ trend with their Ombre’ Lipsticks. This duo lipstick has the basic lip color and a thin darker color as well. This lipstick is very creamy and can be applied directly from the package or for more precise application with a lip brush. For a unique look one can also mix the two shades together. The shade featured above is called “friendly”. I’m going to be on the lookout for the shade “faithful” as it looks to be a very pretty, pale pink.
Lastly, I tried out the Cheeks & Balances Contouring Stick. This is a creamy cheek duo ment to both highlight and contour the cheeks in one product. I prefer to use either shade by themselves or swirled together. It is best applied before powder as well. It’s a bit shimmery so a little goes a long way. The best way to apply this for me was to just pat it into the skin. If a cream bronzer isn’t your thing, there are also cream blush and highlight shades available as well.
Above you can see swatches of the products that I just mentioned from Hard Candy in both direct sun and in the shade outside. Indoors the swatches look a bit more subtle but when applying makeup one has to always think about the different types of light one will be in.
Hard Candy has many more new products being added to their affordable line of makeup available at Walmart. I’ve already added a few of their newest products to my must-try list like: Poppin Pigments (loose eye shadows), CC Creme, and Lip Def just to name a few.
