The story of Peter Pan is one of my favorites. When I was a little girl I loved the story, especially Tinker Bell. And, OH, the adventures with the lost boys. I mean who wouldn’t want to fly and live in a land where you will never grow up?
Recently my youngest and I read the book Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie together as a part of his homeschool studies. He loved reading about Peter’s adventures which is why I’m so excited to take part in a family tv night with my boys. Airing tonight (December 4, 2014) on NBC at 8/7c is Peter Pan Live! with the amazing talents of Allison Williams, Christopher Walken, Christian Borle, and Minnie Driver. I can’t wait for my youngest to see the story he just read in a book come to life on the stage.
As a part of the Walmart Moms, I will be watching and tweeting along during the show over on my twitter page. I hope you will come and tweet along too! To get ready for our family tv night, I was sent a lovely package from the folks at NBC and Walmart. With the giftcard provided, I went to my local Walmart to pick up dinner and treats for my family to munch on as we watch Peter Pan Live! on NBC tonight. Whether it is watching a television show together or a movie, my family loves nights like these. Its probably because on these family nights I love to pick up a Marketside Pizza from Walmart. Not only are they less expensive than ordering delivery but they are quick to pickup and bake so I can enjoy watching the show as much as the rest of the family. Marketside Pizza comes in a variety of flavors and different sizes. For tonight we will be having the Cheese Pizza ($4.98), Pepperoni Pizza ($5.48), and Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks ($2.98). To drink, I picked up some Pepsi which is on rollback at my store right now for just $1 per 2 Liter. And for the kids I wanted something fun for them so I picked up some green Hawaiian Lemon Lime punch ($2.24) which sort of reminds me of what I think one of the main colors in the “Mermaid’s Lagoon” would be.
While at Walmart, I also picked up a few products to make some quick and easy snacks and desserts to munch on during the show for the boys. Of course, I just had to give these delicious treats their own unique names since we are watching Peter Pan LIVE!, afterall. I kept the treats simple so that they can be made fairly quickly before the show starts.
Hook, Peter Pan! (Apples & Honey Peanut Butter Dip)
My kids love apples and peanut butter together. So I picked up a jar of 100% Natural Peter Pan (fitting right?) Honey Roast Creamy peanut butter at Walmart for $2.48. This creamy peanut butter is slightly sweet because of the honey mixed in. We paired this “dip” with golden delicious apples (our “hooks”) which are some of our favorites but you could use any apple that you like the best.
Peanut “Pan” Cookies
My oldest finds this name particularly clever but really all these cookies are is a Betty Crocker Peanut Butter Cookie mix that I got at Walmart for $1.98. They are easy and quick to bake. Once baked and cooled, I placed them in a glass cookie jar with a Peter Pan like hat over top.
Crocodile Crispy Bites
Many of us know how to make Rice Krispy Treats. This is such a classic and simple recipe that you can’t go wrong with having these served at any party. To make these treats ready for showtime, I just simply added about 7 drops of green food coloring to the melted marshmallow mixture before stirring in the Rice Krispies. Once the Rice Krispies treat mixture had cooled enough to handle, I just simply rolled small portions of Rice Krispies into little balls.
