That perfect holiday meal can be summed up with a perfect dessert. You don’t have to tell me twice that it’s time for dessert as it is my favorite aspect of holiday dinner. I definitely am one that has a strong sweet tooth. Today as a part of the Walmart Moms I am trying out a recipe that was featured in Walmart’s Holiday Entertaining Guide. This is a recipe perfect for feeding a crowd at holidays and one created by THE Pioneer Woman, herself.
I love that Walmart carries The Pioneer Woman line of dishes and bakeware in their stores and was so excited to see so many of her recipes featured in the Holiday Entertainment Guide. I want to try as many of her recipes as I possibly can so what better way to start than with a chocolate pie recipe? When it comes to chocolate pie I typically take the easy route with boxed instant pudding, so I find it extremely interesting that The Pioneer Woman’s Chocolate Pie is, minus the crust, completely from scratch. The idea of making “pudding” from scratch kind of sounds intimidating however the description for the pie states: “Good ol’ basic, can’t-go-wrong, everyone-loves-it, super-easy-to-make chocolate pie” which definitely sounds promising that I will be able to pull this off.
The ingredients are very basic, many of which you probably already have on hand like sugar, cornstarch, salt, milk, eggs, bittersweet chocolate, vanilla extract, butter, and of course a pre-made pie crust (get the exact measurements for each ingredient plus step by step instructions on how to make the Pioneer Woman’s Chocolate Pie on walmart.com). For those ingredients that you don’t have one can easily find them at their local Walmart store. The Pioneer Woman is definitely right in the fact that this is not very difficult to make at all. The cook time for me was around 10-15 minutes. I was impressed with how simple it all was that I couldn’t help but “taste test” the chocolate pie filling before putting it in the pie crust. Straight off the stove it tasted phenomenal, I can only imagine how amazing it will be once chilled in the fridge for 4 hours.
Waiting is the hardest part of this recipe, truly. I was able to get one graham cracker pie crust filled plus two additional ramekins of the delicious chocolate pudding mixture, and having to wait for them to chill completely was slightly torture. But after the wait, it was time for the “official” taste test. I think that this recipe is amazing, so much so, that I am seriously reconsidering why I have never made “pudding” from scratch before. It is super simple to make and the taste is out of this world delicious. I made my chocolate pie with a pre-made graham cracker crust just as it appeared in the Walmart Entertaining Guide, however, I think this pie would be over the top delicious with an Oreo pie crust as the base (but I’m a huge Oreo fan so that might just be my own heart’s secret desire). If you need to entertain people in your home or are attending a party/get-together with family or friends and need to bring something….this recipe should be your something!!!! If you are a fan of chocolate you are probably going to love this dessert as well. You can find all of the ingredients plus how to create this amazing chocolate pie by the Pioneer Woman at walmart.com. For more great recipes check out the Holiday Entertaining Guide.
