How to Add Natural Beauty to Your Home with Affordable Houseplants

Stumbling out of the house to be greeted by warm sunshine and bright blue skies has to be one of the best feelings especially after the cold and gloomy grey skies of winter. While there still may be a few cold days left of winter, spring is just around the corner and I couldn’t be more excited to see all of the beautiful plants and flowers of spring begin to grow. The first warm day that we had this year, I spent the majority of the day outside breathing in that fresh air smell. With warmer days around the corner I can’t help but get that itch to plant something beautiful in my garden. Of course, gardening outside right now may not be the best option since the temperatures still dip close to freezing at night but that hasn’t stopped me from taking visits to the garden center at my local Walmart store to check out which plants they have in stock each week.

I’m so excited to see more and more new plants starting to arrive each week. But before I start to clear and prep our outside garden I wanted to get my hands in the dirt in some way so I thought adding some beautiful house plants to our home decor would be a great way to enjoy bits of nature on slightly colder days. House plants make a beautiful addition to any decor and can be enjoyed year round. One of the first types of plants to arrive at my local Walmart store were house plants. I was absolutely shocked at how affordable they were and I think you will be too. I picked up two “small” plants for just $5 each! These are your typical foliage type plants like ferns that will add just that perfect something extra to a room’s decor. I’m excited to watch the Golden Pothos grow as it is a trailing plant. I currently have it in my office on a shelf and love the thought of letting it grow and spill over the edge. The best part about these “smaller” plants is that even though they may be on the small side when you first buy them they will grow and get larger with time which I think is part of the fun of gardening.

Besides a few small potted plants I also wanted to get a larger more “tree-like” plant for our bedroom. We have this blank corner of our bedroom that just bugged me because it was so empty. I couldn’t think of anything to put there until I saw a variety of large, potted tree-like plants at my local Walmart store for just $10! I knew then that one of those plants was exactly what that corner needed. I opted for a palm like plant with big fanned out leaves that would fill that blank space. I made sure to also pick up a large container that wouldn’t leak to display it in. The photo above does not do this plant justice. It is big and gorgeous! The entire feel of our bedroom changed with the addition of this plant and I love it!

I know this won’t be the last time that I add houseplants to our indoor space. I’m pretty sure, in fact, that this is probably just the beginning. I love the idea of bringing the beauty of nature indoors especially when I don’t get to enjoy it as much as I would like whether that be because of a hectic schedule or just unfriendly weather. I love that Walmart carries plants in a variety of sizes plus decorative planters in their garden center at affordable prices to make adding natural beauty to our home simple and budget-friendly.

What are some of your favorite houseplants? What kind of plants would you like to add to your home?
