Summer is finally here! Can you believe it? I know this homeschooling mama is just as excited about the summer months as my kids are. I’m sure you have a lot of exciting plans scheduled to look forward to. The downside to traveling whether it be locally or over a long distance is the wait time. Waiting isn’t much fun, especially for kids. I always like to keep several apps on my phone to entertain the kids for such occasions and I’m always on the lookout for new apps for the kids to try.
I was recently introduced to the app Poptropica Worlds. Poptropica if you are not familiar was created by Jeff Kinney who is also the author of the hugely popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series. Poptropica Worlds provides a safe environment for kids ages 6-12 to play, engage, and learn together. Here is a trailer that will give you a glimpse inside the world of Poptropica…
So what is Poptropica Worlds? Poptropica Worlds is available for kids to play for free online or apps are available for both iOS and Android devices. Once you’ve downloaded, the user can create their own Poptropican Avatar as well as pick out a unique screen name for their adventure. Once inside the game the user can then explore story-based islands, battle monsters, solve mysteries, and complete quests. As a parent, I love that Poptropica Worlds teaches literary and problem solving skills in a fun way for kids. My kids loved creating their own unique character and exploring different aspects of the game all while learning a bit of factual history along the way.
One can easily see why Poptropica has been named by Time Magazine as one of the “50 Websites that Make the Web Great! The graphics are pretty incredible! If you’d like to check it out, the Poptropica Worlds app is free to download for both iOS and Android devices or you can play online for free at poptropica.com. There is a membership option available as well as in-app purchases that will unlock more features of the game if desired.
