Family Movie Night: Instant Family
Instant Family is a new comedy from Paramount Pictures about Pete (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) who decide to start a family through foster care adoption. Overnight, they become a family of 5 and take a speed course in parenting. Parenthood is tough work as Pete and Ellie quickly find out. They also learn becoming parents is one of the greatest journeys they will take in their life. I love that this story is inspired by a true story.
Ideas for a Family Movie Night at Home:
I like the idea of having a themed family movie night. We try to have a family movie night at least once a week with the kids. My youngest was thrilled to watch Instant Family. Whether you are just wanting to sit and watch something together or you want to go all out with different themed activities, family movie night is a great way to spend quality time as a family.
Want to plan a family movie night to watch Instant Family. Some fun activity suggestions would be to design family t-shirts together or have fun with “face painting” inspired by the movie.
TV Shows to Bingewatch this Week:
YOU on Netflix – Read the Book, Binge the Series, then Read the Second Book!
This show – this SHOW! Oh my gosh, where do I even begin. This show had me hooked from the very first episode. So much so that I binged the entire thing in just 2 days. Then immediately after watching the show, I added the book to my to-read list. I am so happy to hear that they will be making a second season of this show (I need some more Joe) and yep you guessed it, the second book is already on my to-read list. This is an incredible series.
Bates Motel on Netflix
I know, I’m extremely late on Bates Motel. I’ve attempted to watch it several times over the last few years but would always get sidetracked with something else. I finally sat down and binged the entire 5 seasons – oh man, was it good! I watched 1 or 2 episodes a night and for several weeks it became my night time routine. The cliff hangers at the end of the episodes are what make you want to come back. This show is the prequel to the well-known movie, Psycho. I have never seen the movie but as far as the series goes, I loved it! This series is messed up in all the right ways. Great Thriller!
Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu
Handmaid’s Tale is scary and very, very real. This show will have you scratching your head and thinking about the “what ifs”. I can not recommend this show enough. I was on the edge of my seat most of seasons 1 & 2, both of which are available on Hulu. Season 3 was recently announced and I can not wait till it is released. With all the crazy that is happening in the world lately, this is worth a watch as a precautionary measure if anything. Highly recommend!
Books to Read
Do you like to read books? I’m trying to push myself to read more books this year. On GoodReads, I can keep track of the books that I want to read plus the books I’ve already read and what I’m currently reading. I’ve been on GoodReads for a very long time but haven’t really read that many books. Each year they have a challenge where you can set a goal for the number of books that you want to read in the year and it keeps a cute little tracker for you as a way to encourage you to meet your goal. You can see my current status over there on my sidebar plus the books I’m currently reading. I set my goal to read just one book a month to start out. I have a feeling I might pass that.
Post Traumatic Church Syndrome by Reba Riley was a great book to read. I listened to the audiobook and liked her story of discovering what she wanted to believe in. She has a similar story to mine in how she was brought up and as an adult she felt the need to go on a journey of experiencing 30 different religions before her 30th birthday. I can completely relate to her story in many ways as my thirties have turned out to be a rollercoaster of discovery for me as well. This books shows that it is completely ok to question your beliefs and ok to challenge yourself to explore. Do not let your childhood and the way you were raised hinder you from discovering who you are, what you really believe, and how you want to live your life.
You are a Badass by Jen Sincero is now one of my favorite books that I’ve ever read. I devoured this book in only a few days. If you need a good “kick in the pants” this is the book that will do it. It is so encouraging and uplifting. I loved her writing style. She speaks like you are listening to advice from a friend. I listened to the audiobook on this one too but there were points throughout the book that I wished I had a physical book in my hand because there were times when I wanted to highlight and make a note of something important that she said to reference back to it. I will more than likely purchase a physical copy of this book to have on hand for reference, as a pick-me-up when I need some encouragement. Must-read!
How I’m Reading more Books:
Most of the books that I read, I read through Scribd. Scribd has a good selection of books and audiobooks that you can read for less than $10 a month. If you have never tried Scribd before, with my referral link you can snag 2 free months of reading to try it out which you can, of course, cancel if you are not into it after your free trial. I like that Scribd offers books and audiobooks, that way I can read several books at once. Each month I pick a couple audiobooks and a couple books to read. The audiobooks I usually am able to listen to fairly quickly as I will typically listen to an audiobook while cleaning the house or making dinner for my family. However, the actual books, that require me to read them, I save for bedtime as I’m trying to develop the habit of reading before bed instead of using my phone.
Must Watch on Youtube
Shane Dawson Conspiracy Theory Series
Shane Dawson is one of my favorite people on YouTube. His content has grown tremendously over the years and his latest series about conspiracy theories will have you “shook-ith”. Whether you believe in conspiracy theories or not, I think it is fun to explore the possibility and to ask yourself the question: “what if?”. Shane’s conspiracy theory series is split up into 2 parts. Each part is over an hour and a half long. So, you’ll need a good little chunk of time to binge both parts.
Recommended Podcast to Listen to this Week
Finding a good podcast that resonates with you can be a little difficult, that is why I like to share my favorite episodes with you when I find them. I like to listen to podcasts when I’m not listening to an audiobook that I’m trying to read. Often times I’ll listen to podcasts while pinning on Pinterest, relaxing in a bath, cooking dinner for my family, or just cleaning up around the house.
Lightworkers Lounge with Stephanie Powers – Ep. 52 Money: How to Attract Financial Abundance
All great things in life start with the right mindset. By adjusting your attitude and thinking about a particular situation, you are able to align yourself better with that which you are trying to attract into your life. This podcast episode is a great one to listen to when you need a little nudge in the right direction.
