Yesterday, my internet kept going in and out not allowing me to get any work done so I had not choice but to craft! It is amazing how dependable we think the internet is but when it is gone or not working properly we find ourselves doing things we would have never thought of doing before.
Anyway, I was extremely bored so I decided to recover our outdoor furniture cushions because I have been wanting to do this for a while now. The original seat covers were extremely shabby and needed to be recovered desperately!
The cushions came out beautifully. I am so glad I took the time to recover the cushions. Hubby was even impressed at how good they looked. He had never seen me sew before because I typically do all of my sewing projects while he is working.
He was commenting and saying good things about my sewing skills the whole time I was crafting. It really made me feel good.
I hope to get some crafting done today. I will be making an apron and freezer paper stenciling a few items. I will be sure to show you then end results whenever I am finished.
sewing machine that I got for Christmas this year and what kind of sewing machine that I used to have.
I started with a Kenmore Ultra-Mini, the cool blue color totally rocked my world. But as I became more advanced in my sewing it started to not perform so well. My mother and I sewed all of our baby decor for the nursery with that sewing machine, but had a really hard time with the threading. It would come unthreaded and bunch up string under the fabric rather than actually sew something. My mother has a suspicion that the tension is off but I really have no idea what is wrong with it. The nursery decor was the last thing that the Kenmore Ultra-Mini ever sewed. It was bitter sweet knowing that I could no longer use this cute little machine. I attempted to sew an apron with this machine but the threading problem happened again, so I stored it in the cabinet to never see the light of day again. The Kenmore Ultra-Mini is a sewing machine for beginners that don’t know much about sewing. They no longer sell this model, so if you want one you have to do a search for it on Ebay or something similar. Go yardsaling you might find one there.
Now onto my new baby. The Brother LS-2125i what a beauty of a sewing machine you really are. I love you and I’ve only sewn up a pair of holy jeans for my husband with you. I see lots of potential for you. You are a little bigger than my first sewing machine but you look to be very sturdy. Threading the bobbin and the actual machine was very easy. The first stitch was effortless and you just exude ubber coolness as you sit on my sewing desk. I heart you
Brother LS-2125i, I can foresee lots of wonderful sewing projects coming from you.

What I am really excited about is that I can now resume making the projects in the Amy Butler’s In Stitches: More Than 25 Simple and Stylish Sewing Projects book. I love this book and want to make everything in it. I have already made the pillows on the front cover, now I can make the other items as well. After I sew a few projects out of Amy Butler’s Book, I will move onto the Amy Butler Nappy Diaper Bag Tote & Changing Pad Sewing Pattern that I also bought way back in my sewing craze.
It feels so good to have my sewing craze back. I love being crafty. Not only does being crafty save me money but it is also a lot of fun to do. You can’t replace the pride you have when you make something versus when you just buy it at the store.
So I’ve been very crafty busy the past couple of days. Yesterday I made my very first floor pillow…

Isn’t it cute. I love the colors and the buttons. Pnut thinks that it is his new bed and KoJo our dog thinks it is his new bed. I don’t know where or what we are going to use it for but I just had to make one. The floor pillow is stuffed with an old body pillow and 2-3 other old pillows that had gotten ripped. The fabric I had bought initially to do another project but upon reading the pattern discovered that I hadn’t purchased enough and floor pillow was next on my list of things to make. I would like to make a couple more to go in the living room for the kids to lay on and watch tv or play their games on. We shall see.
Also, today my mother and I cast my pregnant stomach. Click the scrap-page below to go to my belly casting post on Belly Bean.

Like I mentioned earlier it is my duty to man the fort, while hubby works. Today I took the boys into the kitchen to make some peanut butter crispy squares [recipe to be posted on Recipe Rush later today]. I let my step sons borrow some of my aprons which were HUGE on them. So I’ve promised to make them there own aprons for the next adventure in the kitchen. Pnut has his elmo apron as you may recall now my step sons won’t feel so left out when I make them their own. I’m thinking of making half aprons? I dunno maybe I’ll tackle a full apron, we’ll see. I haven’t made a complete apron from scratch since my tenth grade year of highschool. So this should be an interesting little project to take on. If anyone knows of any free tutorials online to make a full kids apron, by all means send me the link.
So for the last couple of days I’ve been sewing till my hearts desire. I created two things for pnut. One is a Sesame Street Apron because he just LOVES TO COOK! Pnut helps me cook just about every meal we make so to have him wear an apron is just too cute. He loves it and refuses to cook without it now.

Then today, I took an old pair of pnuts shorts from last summer that had a rip in the butt and made a mock tie that I have sewn on one of his t-shirts that had a stain on it. I think it turned out very cute. Hubby loved it so much he wants me to make him a “big person’s” version. LOL. To add some demintion and to make the tie look more “real”, I stuffed it so it stands out from the shirt some.

Sew….what do ya think?
So I mentioned in a previous post that I dreamt about a sewing box last night. Well, I woke up with the determination that I just had to go and get it or I’d be kicking myself in the pants later on when it was gone. So here it is….

I suppose you realize you have a new obsession in your life when you start to dream about it. I’ve been dreaming about sewing. How crazy is that. In particular, last night I dreamt about a sewing basket I saw at Wal-mart. You know you really want something when you are dreaming about it.
Now as anyone knows If I don’t go to Walmart today and buy that beauty then I will kick myself down the road when I’ve accumulated enough sewing stuff to be stored and have no place to store it. This is how alot of my shopping goes. I’m not very impulsive when I buy things. I always have to just “think about it”. If I can’t stop thinking about it then I know that it is a must have item for my home. If I forget about it and never give it another thought then it just wasn’t ment to be.

I’ve mentioned in the past about how I want to conquer knitting. Today since my mother is in town to visit we decided to teach ourselves how to knit. We bought a beginners knitting kit with dvd to instruct us on our knitting adventure. It took us 4 hours just to learn the techniques for casting on, english knitting, and english purling. We haven’t started on the pattern just yet because we are trying to master the techniques first.

I didn’t realize how hard knitting can be. We were concentrating so hard that I swear I could have gone into labor….LOL. But it was so much fun to see each other struggle. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life. My goal is to be one of those ladies that you see in the doctor offices knitting away waiting on their name to be called. I don’t know why I want to be one of those ladies, I just do. Weird, I know. I’m just really enjoying this whole crafty/housewife/american stay at home mom role. I want to be as well rounded in the “domestics” as possible. I’m a nerd, I know, I can’t help it.
Tomorrow, we will learn some more knitting and then move on to making curtains for the babies room.

I just love the vintage apple fabrics both the white and the blue. It is so adorable and I can make some really adorable aprons with it to match my apple kitchen. So much fun.
So I’ve found a new hobby. SEWING!!! My mother gave me her sewing machine and now I want to sew everything!!! I can’t stop looking for patterns whenever I go to walmart and don’t get me started on the ALL DAY search I did today for patterns and fabric on ebay. Its like I’m obsessed and I haven’t even sewn anything yet. LOL.
A friend of mine introduced me to Amy Butler and Oh my goodness she is a total genius. All of her designs and fabrics are absolutely gorgeous. I went on a splurge and bought her new book Amy Butler’s In Stitches: More Than 25 Simple and Stylish Sewing Projects because of an apron I saw that my friend had made that was too cute to pass up. And the best part is that on Amy Butler’s website she has some free patterns!!! Woo-hoo! There is a stuffed cat that I’m just dying to make for the new baby and a matching one for the pnut as well as turning the Cafe’ Apron into a skirt. BTW, I bought the Cafe’ Apron and Nappy Bag patterns off of Ebay earlier this week. They both came in the mail yesterday which has me even more excited. I’m now on the hunt for some really great fabric to make all of these little projects.
My mother and I have several projects lined up, here are just a few:
The baby related stuff is of course the first to be made, just simply because I’m going to pop a baby out in a matter of weeks. But first before I can indulge in my new sewing hobby, I must get the house clean, housework for the day done, my “work” done on the computer [which is writing my paid posts], and last but not least a shower taken.
Oh and my mother and I are going to teach ourselves to knit. I’ve always wanted to knit so we bought some easy to do kits at the craft store that were on sale. Whenever she comes over for the weekend we are going to teach each other how to knit. She knows some of the techniques already that my grandmother had taught her so hopefully she can remember and teach me. I’d love to add knitting and sewing to my list of things that I can do. Its hard trying to be the well-rounded stay at home mom.
