    Sewing Essentials

Apr 6, 2007 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Commercial Break, Crafts, Sewing

So I mentioned in a previous post that I dreamt about a sewing box last night. Well, I woke up with the determination that I just had to go and get it or I’d be kicking myself in the pants later on when it was gone. So here it is….

Is it not beautiful? So cute.
I think the mail man is getting sick of my new ebay/craft obsession. Everyday he has to pull up my driveway to drop off a package that can’t fit into our mailbox. LOL. Today I received some elmo fabric that I plan on creating some gardening aprons out of for me and the boys, as well as a book entitled “You’re Not The Boss Of Me: Adventures Of A Modern Mom“. I took a photo of the items with my new buddy my sewing box along with some yarn for me to practice my knitting with and some ribbon that I found to be too cute to pass up. I have no idea what to make with the ribbon but I figure I could come up with something or maybe my loyal crafty readers could send me some links to some tutorials requiring ribbon [hint, hint, nudge nudge].

    Sew, you dreamed about what?

Apr 6, 2007 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Shopping, Crafts, Sewing

I suppose you realize you have a new obsession in your life when you start to dream about it. I’ve been dreaming about sewing. How crazy is that. In particular, last night I dreamt about a sewing basket I saw at Wal-mart. You know you really want something when you are dreaming about it.
Now as anyone knows If I don’t go to Walmart today and buy that beauty then I will kick myself down the road when I’ve accumulated enough sewing stuff to be stored and have no place to store it. This is how alot of my shopping goes. I’m not very impulsive when I buy things. I always have to just “think about it”. If I can’t stop thinking about it then I know that it is a must have item for my home. If I forget about it and never give it another thought then it just wasn’t ment to be.

    Knit-Knak: Part 1

I’ve mentioned in the past about how I want to conquer knitting. Today since my mother is in town to visit we decided to teach ourselves how to knit. We bought a beginners knitting kit with dvd to instruct us on our knitting adventure. It took us 4 hours just to learn the techniques for casting on, english knitting, and english purling. We haven’t started on the pattern just yet because we are trying to master the techniques first.

I didn’t realize how hard knitting can be. We were concentrating so hard that I swear I could have gone into labor….LOL. But it was so much fun to see each other struggle. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life. My goal is to be one of those ladies that you see in the doctor offices knitting away waiting on their name to be called. I don’t know why I want to be one of those ladies, I just do. Weird, I know. I’m just really enjoying this whole crafty/housewife/american stay at home mom role. I want to be as well rounded in the “domestics” as possible. I’m a nerd, I know, I can’t help it.

Tomorrow, we will learn some more knitting and then move on to making curtains for the babies room.

    Fabric!

Apr 2, 2007 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Crafts, Sewing

Woo-hoo some of the fabric that I ordered off of ebay came in today. I’m so excited to get started sewing. I still have some patterns and more fabrics coming in so I can’t get started yet but soon enough. Until then, I’ll be cruising the web for some free tutorials.

I just love the vintage apple fabrics both the white and the blue. It is so adorable and I can make some really adorable aprons with it to match my apple kitchen. So much fun.

    Sew Crazy!

Mar 29, 2007 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Crafts, Sewing

Photo 1So I’ve found a new hobby. SEWING!!! My mother gave me her sewing machine and now I want to sew everything!!! I can’t stop looking for patterns whenever I go to walmart and don’t get me started on the ALL DAY search I did today for patterns and fabric on ebay. Its like I’m obsessed and I haven’t even sewn anything yet. LOL.

A friend of mine introduced me to Amy Butler and Oh my goodness she is a total genius. All of her designs and fabrics are absolutely gorgeous. I went on a splurge and bought her new book Amy Butler’s In Stitches: More Than 25 Simple and Stylish Sewing Projects because of an apron I saw that my friend had made that was too cute to pass up. And the best part is that on Amy Butler’s website she has some free patterns!!! Woo-hoo! There is a stuffed cat that I’m just dying to make for the new baby and a matching one for the pnut as well as turning the Cafe’ Apron into a skirt. BTW, I bought the Cafe’ Apron and Nappy Bag patterns off of Ebay earlier this week. They both came in the mail yesterday which has me even more excited. I’m now on the hunt for some really great fabric to make all of these little projects.

Help me I think I’m obsessed!!!!

Photo 2My mother and I have several projects lined up, here are just a few:

  • Make a mai tei wrap
  • purse
  • Make a BABY wrap
  • nappy bag
  • curtains for the laundry room and the babies room
  • aprons
  • skirts
  • pot holders
  • two cats
  • fleece blanket for bedroom
  • The baby related stuff is of course the first to be made, just simply because I’m going to pop a baby out in a matter of weeks. But first before I can indulge in my new sewing hobby, I must get the house clean, housework for the day done, my “work” done on the computer [which is writing my paid posts], and last but not least a shower taken.

Oh and my mother and I are going to teach ourselves to knit. I’ve always wanted to knit so we bought some easy to do kits at the craft store that were on sale. Whenever she comes over for the weekend we are going to teach each other how to knit. She knows some of the techniques already that my grandmother had taught her so hopefully she can remember and teach me. I’d love to add knitting and sewing to my list of things that I can do. Its hard trying to be the well-rounded stay at home mom.
