So for a while now, well ever since summer started, I’ve been wanting to get my hair whacked off. As the celebrities start going on their vacations and as I started reading the blogs this summer, I started noticing a trend. Everyone is chopping their hair off. It is like “the trend” right now. This of course gave me the desire even more so to get my hair chopped as well.
I started growing my hair out in 2004 when I found out I was pregnant with my first-born, p-nut. I knew growing it out while I was pregnant would be easy because your hair grows faster while your “knocked up” due to all of the excess hormones. And sure enough, when I gave birth to my son my hair was half way down my back and I started letting it grow when it was chin length. It typically takes years to get that much growth.
Well now 3 years later and 1 month post partum, It is time for a change again. I just had my second son which is a completely new chapter in my life, now I am more in love with my husband than I’ve ever been, I am a work from home mom now, and I feel that I should have a new look for this new “lifestyle” of mine.
I presented the idea to my mother at the beginning of June. My original plan was to have it done when my husband and I are supposed to have a renewing of our vows ceremony at the end of the month near our birthdays. Well due to having to shell to $2500 for a new transmition for our car, we will more than likely have to postpone our renewal due to lack of moo-lah. It sucks but really I don’t need a big ceremony to renew our vows. I love hubby and a couple vows isn’t going to make me feel more “in love” with him. I didn’t have a big wedding, I didn’t even buy a wedding dress, it just isn’t that big of a deal to me. I’m shy, remember, I have issues. Anyways, I decided to get it done Saturday while my Mom was visiting for the weekend. We had tons of fun and while I was getting my hair chopped she could watch all 4 kids.

Here is the hair before the makeover…

The stylist kept asking me, “are you sure you want it that short?”. Everyone asked me that several times. “Sheesh, Yes I am sure”!
So the cutting begins…

Wow, my head fills lighter. LOL. I had alot of hair!!! Are you ready to see the finished product…

When the boys saw me walking up to the front to pay. They were all like “Wow, that is really short!!!” “Your hair is pretty, Hegar.” I asked pnut if he liked my hair to which I received a response around “Yes, I do, MaMa”. Awww. Approval from the crew, now it is time to go surprise hubby at work!!!

The bean slept the whole time. He missed all of the action. But when he woke up, he had plenty to say about Mommy’s new hair. I had him in my wrap, he was just looking at me and cooing all kinds of compliments about the haircut. I like the short hair because now the bean isn’t constantly grabbing big handfuls and pulling it out.

So which hair do the readers like? Short & Sassy? or Long & Sexy??

So now that summer is here you are probably going to be wearing a lot of toe friendly footwear in the upcoming days. You definitely can’t be exposing those toesies to the world with out a rockin’ pedicure. I personally love french manicures or pedicures. I love the simplicity and clean lines of the french manicure but I hate going to the nail salon and shelling out big bucks to have it done. I’m a stay at home mom and I just can’t afford to spend that type of money on my toes so I came up with a solution to get that nail salon french pedicure without hurting my wallet.
[the above photo is an example of the DIY French Pedicure that this tutorial will hopefully help you achieve]
Step 1: Start with clean, polish free toes.
Step 2: Start with one toe at a time. Take white polish and paint the very tip of your toe where your natural growth appears.
Step 3: Then immediately take a Q-tip dipped in fingernail polish remover and go under the line of white polish that you just painted while it is still wet and try to make the line as perfect as possible.
Step 4: Repeat steps 2 & 3 to the rest of your toes. Let dry completely.
Step 5: Lastly cover your whole entire nail with a clear hard top coat. I like to use a top coat that is slightly tinted with either blue or a pink color versus the completely clear kind but all clear is good too.
Let dry and you are done! It is that simple.
The lovely ladies over at Crazy Hip Blog Mamas is having a contest where you can win a $50 gift certificate for some Loose Lips New York makeup. I absolutely had to try my hand at entering since I just LOVE makeup but now-a-days can’t seem to find the time to actually put any on anymore. Maybe it is because I am 36 weeks pregnant, big as a house, completely exhausted, utterly uncomfortable, or just plain tired but I haven’t been able to “primp myself up” now for quite some time. I miss my “pretty days”. The days that my feet weren’t swollen the size of boats, days I could go 5 minutes without having to pee or have someone watch me pee, where I didn’t think I was going to go absolutely crazy from the “baby eating my brain”. As I complain about being pregnant for the second time, I know that this is just a phase and that soon enough I will be back into my old routine and back into my “hot mama” skin and not this oversized ballooned out body I’ve been sporting for 9 months.
During my “hot mama” times I do have some really great makeup tips that I’d like LOVE to share with ya’ll….
Tip #1: Exfoliate!!!
To get the Look:
* I use a facial scrub like St. Ive’s Medicated Apricot scrub to sluff off dead skin cells at least 2-3 times a week.
* I also apply a mud face mask once a week to draw any toxins and gunkies out of my pores.
Tip #2: Tone, Moisturize, Prime, and Cover
To get the look:
* After washing my face, I immediately sweep toner all over my face to make sure I have gotten all of the residue or extra makeup that my soap left behind.
* Secondly, after the toner has dried I apply a moisturizer all over my face. I use the basic Oil of Olay beauty lotion that has been around forever.
* Thirdly, I apply a makeup primer on top of my moisturizer that keeps my makeup in place and smooth.
* Once the primer dries, I conceal my dark circles with a regular stick concealer. Then I buff in a powder foundation all over my face. I love powder foundation because it doesn’t look masky or cakey. It helps my skin breath and not to mention feels alot better than liquid foundation. I don’t have to worry about my foundation melting off of my face in the dead heat of summer when I’m wearing powder foundation.
* Lastly to set everything I apply a translucent powder all over the face. The translucent powder will then help my eye and lip makeup to stay on longer.
Tip #3: Make your Eyes appear larger than they actually are.
To get the look:
* First apply whatever shade of eyeshadow you like or look best in. The choose the next two shades up and define the eye by placing it on the outside of the eye and in the crease.
* With Black Eyeliner, Line the top lashes only, all the way across.
* With black eyeshadow and an eyeliner brush go over the black eyeliner to give it a smokey not so “done” look.
* To make your lashes look extra thick, apply black eyeliner to the inside of the top lid.
* Apply Mascara to the top lashes only. This draws the eye upward. Applying mascara to the bottom closes the eye in and makes it appear smaller, same with the liner.
* If you want to go the extra mile, you could apply WHITE eyeliner to the inside of the bottom lid which will make your eye appear even larger.
* Apply a shimmering powder to your brow bone and the inside corner of each eye.
Tip #4: Create the illusion of hollowed out cheek bones. [I personally get commented on this one all the time]
To get the look:
* Place your blush instead of at the apple of your cheek, place it just under your natural cheekbone all the way back to your hair line.
* If you want to do more, you can add a shimmering powder on the cheekbone itself to highlight it and create that dewy appearance all the celebrities are doing.
Tip #5: Trick #3: Create the illusion of fuller lips
To get the look:
* Always line your lips with a neutral shade no matter what shade of lipstick you are using and do it correctly. My secret is that I use a very light brown/blonde shade of an eyebrow pencil and use it both to “shape” my brows and line my lips.
*To line your lips properly: Place your pinky on your chin to stabelize your hand. Go from each corner upward. On your upper lip, going from the top down, makes the mouth look droopy. Do the same to your bottom lip.
* Finish off with gloss. Gloss is Key! Gloss can do so much more for you than lipstick ever could. I mean look at Jennifer Lopez, she is always glossing it up!!! Make sure you blend your liner into your gloss so you don’t have a “lined look”.
I know this routine seems sort of extensive for the average Stay at home Mom that doesn’t have alot of time on her hands. This is the routine I take whenever I do get to have just a couple minutes to myself for a special day. Usually I just wear mascara and foundation. But once you get the hang of the “full look” it really does go by quickly and you can look “Domestic Diva” good in no time.
I am so glad I did my nails the other day. I got a Dynex Wireless Optical Mouse from christmas for hubby and I absolutely love it! I don’t know where it has been my whole laptop using life. I used to just run my finger over the touchpad. I tried doing that when I had my mouse unplugged and it was fairly hard with my nails all long and gorgeous. LOL. I’ve noticed it is alot harder to type as well but I’m getting the hang of it, I think. I still mess up and press wrong keys more often than when my nails are not done but better to miss a key than have ragged nails…
Ahhh, all for the price of beauty.

Yesterday, I did my nails. They were long over due for a little TLC. I took photos of the before and after results. You can see in the before I was trying to sport the goth nail look that most celebrities are attempting to pull off right now. And as you can see my polish is all chipped off due to housework. *Sigh* So I went acrylic. And yes I did do it myself. That is the beauty of being a cosmetology/esthetics dropout. I’m just really good at all things makeup and hair. So what do you think? Likey, or no likey. I think they are ubber cute! I keep catching myself starring at them since I rarely have my nails done. Besides when you have a little length to your nail it makes you fingers look longer and not so squatty.
Oh and you guys no I’m frugal so how much do you think I saved by doing my nails myself? I estimate I saved $15.00!!!! Cost of a full set at a salon starts at about $20.00, cost of the materials to do it yourself $5.00…you do the math!
Ok
