Faux Hawk or Mohawk?

Sep 17, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Beauty, Kidlets

Excited about getting a MoHawk

The definition of a faux hawk according to urbandictionary.com is…

A toned-down version of the famous mohawk haircut, in which the sides of the head are shaved and a central strip of hair is made to stand up. The faux hawk resembles the mohawk when styled but can also, if desired, appear to be a conventional male haircut.

But you see we did shave the sides of pnut’s head, just a little bit, but just not all the way down till we saw skin. So I ask you, is pnut rocking a faux hawk or a mohawk. By definition a faux hawk would be something that looks like a normal haircut but if you wanted something funky all you had to do was gel it out. But a mohawk as we all know is when the sides are completely void of hair with the exception of a thick strip down the middle that you often spike upwards.

So is pnut rocking a faux hawk or a mohawk? Or maybe we should just call it a faux mohawk. What do you think? Either way, I think his new haircut is super cute. It makes him look older. Pnut is loving his new rockstar look. He goes to the mirror every half hour or so, gazes at his reflection, fixes “the hawk”, and then proclaims he is a rockstar!

Faux Hawk or Mohawk?

If you were wondering, yes we typically cut our kids hair ourselves because it saves us money.

Them Boots

Them Boots

Do you see the boots that my son is wearing in the photo taken above? Those are his favorite pair of boots to date. My mother stumbled upon these fun little character boots at a yard sale about a month ago and to this date the boots have not left my son’s feet. He just absolutely loves them and refuses to wear any other kind of shoes whenever we leave the house.

Oh yes doesn’t he look fashionable with his basketball get up and green wormy boots to match! LOL. This is such a cute little stage that he is in. And I know many of you have seen a mother at the store with a child in hand with weird footwear as well. I can remember a time when I thought to myself “Why on earth does she let her child wear that weird stuff out of the house?” Now being “that mother” it makes perfect sense, it is for one reason and one reason only. Because it is just too gosh darn cute!!!

Like many aspects of our children’s lives, this is just a phase that will soon pass so I definitely wanted to highlight on it now before it is just a passing memory.

Superman goes for a Wash

Superman Injured?Apparently, one little kidlet thought it would be funny to put Superman in the wash. Oh poor Superman, you weren’t designed for such adventures. When he came out lets just say he was less than his typical gorgeous self. As I discovered Superman in the laundry I envisioned how my three year old little super hero would react to his idol being a little less than perfect. When I gave him his favorite Super Hero his reaction was completely priceless. He looks at me and says “OH NO, Swuperman! I wash him, Mommy”. I said “Yes you did, and that is what happens when you leave your toys in the wash”. He looks at me with the most concerned look on his face and says “Mama, I fix him!” He then runs to the bathroom grabs his toothbrush and begins to scrub Superman’s face. It was a sweet gesture but Superman isn’t looking any better. Apparently Super Heroes are blue underneath not pink like normal people. Pnut tried so very hard to fix up his dear friend with not much success but it was nice to see him care so much about his little friend. So sweet. Maybe next time we should give superman a waterproof bandage when he wants to take a swim in the washing machine.

I think it is so precious to see how our children interact, pretend, and play with their toys and friends. Does your child have a favorite toy, object, game, etc.? What kind of relationship does your child have with that object? Do you have any funny stories?

The Poop Episode

Dear Baby Bean (1 year 1 month old),

Who knew that you would grow up so quickly. Who knew that within the matter of a day you would manage to teach yourself how to remove your diaper. Take a nice gross poop while uncovered, and manage to smear it all over your crib, you, and in places where poop definitely should not be. You woke us up at four in the morning with a present we did not expect! Daddy handed me to you and I quickly gave you a bath to get all the yuckies off. While you were getting clean in the bathtub, Daddy was in your room cleaning up “your masterpiece” from all four corners of your crib. Nice one, Bean. You really know how to wake us all up with a bang (and very foul smell I must add).

From this day forth, you go to bed with pants always on. From this day forth, gone are your days of freedom. Running around the house in just a diaper. Not no more my friend. You know a new trick now and it is one that mommy doesn’t really approve of.

If I were you, I would learn a new trick. That way you can go back to being the carefree baby that we all know and love, not this little poop monster we saw the other morning.

Love Always,
Mommy

Beany turns 1 year old

First Birthday: Bean First Birthday: Bean First Birthday: Bean Beans 1 yr Bday Beans 1 yr Bday Beans 1 yr Bday Beans 1 yr Bday Beans 1 yr Bday Beans 1 yr Bday Beans 1 yr Bday

Just about a week ago on the 21st, our littles baby turned one year old! I can’t believe that the time has come and gone so quickly. It was a sad and exciting event for me personally. Beany didn’t like the getting messy part with the cake and didn’t really eat a whole lot of it. Just enough cake for a taste then he was on to eating something else.

Above are some photos from the event that I think better describe the happenings rather than me telling you about it. All we did was open a couple of presents, eat a little bit of cake, and that was it. Nothing fancy, after all we were more concerned about cleaning up tornado damage.

Cutting Television out of your Childs Routine

May 30, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Mommy Matters, Kidlets, Domestic Duties

I did a little personal experience with my oldest son Pnut who is three years old and his daily intake of television. I noticed my son had started to become too aggressive and would throw fits at the littlest things. He was just plain angry all the time. I started cutting television out of his daily activities to see if it was the trigger for his rage. For a week straight he watched no television and played occasional educational games on the computer. After a week I noticed his behavior had changed tremendously. He no longer walked around the house with a crunchy look on his face, he began playing well with his little brother, and was overall really nice when you would speak to him.

Now we don’t watch anything bad in this house, we are strictly a PBS household. He would watch shows like Curious George, Super Why, Word World, and all the other favorite PBS shows. I wanted to see if television really was his source of “anger” so the following week I allowed him to watch his favorite show “Super Why” and immediately he reverted back to his mean self. I don’t think it is the show itself that is causing the behavior changes but I do think that the commercials they show before and after might have a thing or two to do with it. Super Why has helped Pnut tremendously so I can’t be hard on them but something about television watching is triggering my son to act out and I don’t like it.

So for now we are turning off the tube. As a “special treat” for being good he can watch Super Why once a week but anything more than that I am really hesitant to allow. To occupy his time he can practice writing his letters during craft time, play education games on the computer, or have some good ol’ play time with his little brother with the bazillion toys that we own.

How much television do you allow your child to watch?
Do you think television can trigger a child’s behavior and to act out?
What do you think about my decision?

Sumbob Firepants

What is with that title? “Sumbob Firepants” is the name that Pnut calls “Spongebob Squarepants”. I personally hate the show “Spongebob Squarepants” and don’t really like the kidlets watching it but occasionally when my step-sons are over they play a spongebob game which releases a whole different can of worms. For me I like my children to watch television shows that they can learn stuff from. My favorite show as well as the boys is “Super-Why!”. Pnut has learned so much from Super Why that is absolutely amazing to see him so excited about learning. He often times plays pretend in his room trying to be just like “Super Why”. But for an occasional rainy day “sumbob firepants” would suffice but for everyday learning it is strictly educational television and games at this house.

Baby Claps and plays Peek-a-Boo (Video)

May 28, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Kidlets

One of Beanies favorite games to play right now is Peek-a-boo. He does all the hiding and thinks it is so much fun to do. During the American Idol Finale Bean was playing peek-a-boo with his brother in his pack and play. Beany couldn’t stop destroying the living room so we had to put him in his “baby jail” so we could enjoy American Idol. You will notice that whenever someone claps on American Idol so does the Bean.

Baby Wants Pizza (Video)

May 27, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Kidlets

I caught a video of the bean the other day trying to sneak a bite of pnut’s pizza. Beany is lactose intolerant so he wasn’t able to have any pizza with the rest of the family. It is such a shame because beany looked really interested in what pizza tasted like, in fact he couldn’t stop saying the word “pizza”. Listen carefully and you will hear him say “pizza” and “i want that”.

Don’t you just want to squeeze him, he is so cute and chunky!

the Kidlets are a Handful

May 17, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Kidlets, Domestic Duties

You don’t realize how much you miss your home or your routine until life throws you a curve ball and you are completely out of your element. This week we have been at my mother’s house while my husband helps my Dad clean up the debris in his yard as well as the debris in our soon to be new home. My job is to entertain the kids but honestly there is so much TV watching that I can stand. We would go out and play but oops the yard is full of trees, so much for that idea. We have no toys here so there really isn’t much to do but ride around town looking at the death and destruction but even that has gotten old after just a week.

I have noticed though that we are very dependent upon our certain schedule and our things in our home. The kids don’t do so well without their set schedule and lack of activities, which I totally can not blame them one bit. I also notice that when Daddy isn’t around that the kids treat me in a completely different way. The Pnut especially has been giving me all kinds of attitude and lip but I know it is just a way of acting out under the present circumstances. I know he doesn’t know what is going on and might even be a little scared of the whole situation.

I had internet tonight for a couple of hours so I decided to get some paid posting worked in as well as a few updates. Scroll down the page and you will see the updates every other one. Please continue to keep us in your prayers.

Don’t forget to send a little donation love our way to help us in the clean up of the tornado damage (you can do so at the top of my sidebar—>). Thank you so much to everyone that has already donate what they could. I can not express to you how much you have to touched my heart already. When I logged on and saw some people had already donated, I immediately began to cry. You will be blessed! Thank you so much. *BIG HUGS*
