Domestic Diva 30-Day ChallengeWell it is that time folks the time that determines who is better at disciplining themselves than the others. No, I kid. I lack motivation and way too much on my plate to even begin to say how pathetic I was in this month’s 30 Day Challenge. Time to weigh in!!!
You have until July 6th, 2008 midnight EST to submit your final weigh in if you are one of the participants. If you don’t make the deadline I am sorry but I can’t count you in the final weigh in.

Good Luck Everyone!!!

30-Day Challenge: Weekly Weigh In

Jun 25, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Commercial Break, "the Diet"

Domestic Diva 30-Day ChallengeWell it is that time of the week again for all of our 30-day challengers to hop up on those scales and tell us the results.

This week I have been extremely busy spitting out tons of design work as well as scrambling to pack up the house in order to move by the end of the week. If I’m not on the computer then I am waist deep in a cardboard box. This leave very little time to eat much less think of what to eat.

So this week I have lost a HUGE whopping ONE POUND. Exciting I know but when you have lost anything since the beginning of the challenge you are pretty excited about that one pound. I just wish I had some more time on my plate to actually work out instead, I know my body needs a good workout in fact it begs for it I just don’t have time right now to fit it into my schedule.

All right everyone, be brave. Hope on the scales and give us your results. Remember after this weigh in we have one more week before we announce winners. Give it all you got this last week!

In Remembrance: Ode to the Cantaloupe

Jun 19, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: "the Diet", Domestic Duties

MelonOne thing that I look forward to every summer is diving into a freshly cut cantaloupe. Although I would much rather eat a honeydew melon, I eat cantaloupe on account of my grandmother. Every year my grandmother had the hook up on the cantaloupes. Being the hoochie-hoe that my grandmother was she always made friends with men. My mother and I used to joke about how she was always flirting, my grandmother had no shame. One particular year she made “friends” with her hairdressers husband. He drove a fruit truck that just so happened to be cantaloupes. Every year she would hit this man up for as many cantaloupes she could get into the trunk of her car. And of course being the flirt that she was, she would get all of these cantaloupes for free! So every summer my grandmother and I would live on the diet of free cantaloupes. For some reason the cantaloupes my grandmother seemed to muster out of the man were always the best cantaloupes. And to this day I am still unable to pick a cantaloupe like my grandmother could.

Every year when the cantaloupes are in season, I run to the store and get a few just to remember my grandmother by. Cantaloupes were “our thing”. Even though the ones that I pick up are not nearly as good as the ones grandma would get, they still make me think of her and that is my goal whenever I eat a cantaloupe.

So thank you grandma for instilling this awesome tradition with me. I will continue to keep this tradition alive even though you have since left us to go to a better place.

Week 2 Weigh In for 30-Day Challenge

Jun 18, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: Commercial Break, "the Diet"

Domestic Diva 30-Day ChallengeWell Week 2 has come and gone, we all have to hop up on those scales and weigh in for the week. I am still STUCK at 142 lbs. Nothing gained and nothing lost.

My goal for this week is to really step up my game and work out as hard and as often as I possibly can.

In the comments, leave your weight and weight loss percentage plus what your goal is for this week.

Hoopnotics is a new wave of working out that is sure to become a huge trend. Hoopnotics takes the simplicity of hoola hooping and kicks it up a notch by turning it into a calorie burning, aerobic dance.

People often think that just because I did gymnastics for ten years and cheerleading for two that I am automatically coordinated. This is simply not true. I have about as much coordination as a blind cat. This little white girl don’t dance and there is a reason for it, I’m not good at it.

Hoopnotics ReviewWhen Hoopnotics approached me wanting me to review their product, I was a little hesitant because of my lack of coordination. I gave up my fear and decided to dive in “hips first” into the challenge met before me. Hoopnotics arrived at my door late Friday evening and I couldn’t wait to test my hooping skills. I popped in the first DVD and began learning how to hoola hoop. The first thirty minutes or so was pretty rough. I whacked myself in the head, hit the wall, and couldn’t keep my hoop up to save my life. Once I sat down and studied the “rules of hoola hooping” it began to click inside my mind and my body began to respond. I was doing it in less than a day!

I’m not going to lie, it takes time to learn Hoopnotics but it isn’t as complicated as learning to do a dance video or tai-bo kick boxing for example (neither of which I can do). I can not express to you how much Hoopnotics is and how much of a workout it really is. The following morning after my first “session” my abs were cursing at me and my arms were on strike from working out ever again! You honestly wouldn’t think in a million years that hoola hooping was such a great workout but it really gets you sweating and that heart beat a racing.

Hoopnotic Hoopdance Beginning Level 1 & Hoopnotic Hoopdance Beginning Level 2 are two workout DVD’s that have instantly become my favorite workout, literally over night. It isn’t everyday that you see a grown woman hoola hooping in the yard much less with such a sexy attitude and poise about her.

The DVD’s aren’t ment to be followed directly like most work out videos. They are made to be your guide. You watch a segment on a new “trick” to do then you go out and start doing it. Practicing hoola hooping is what is making your burn calories. I like that I don’t feel like I have to be watching a tape the entire time. I can just go out in the backyard and hoola hoop all I want and if I have a question or want to learn something new then I can use the DVD’s as my guide.

Hoopnotics ReviewSome of you may be wondering…So can I use just any ol’ hoola hoop? The technical answer would be NO. Hoopnotica has designed a special Hoopnotica TravelHoop (mine is pink/gold) that is designed for an adults body and are slightly heavier to add resistance to your hoola hoop training, unlike the ones at the store that are designed for a childs body and are significantly light weight.

The better I become at this hoola hooping thing the more and more I think about entering the Miss America pageant just so I can show off my special talent of hoopin’. If I keep doing this fun workout everyday, those last twenty pounds of stubborn baby weight should be gone in no time flat! Please visit Hoopnotica’s website to see some amazingly mesmerizing videos and to learn about all the benefits of hooping.

Meet your Meat: Dont eat more Chicken!

May 30, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: "the Diet", Domestic Duties

Meet your MeatWhile on the road, driving through Atlanta, we saw a bunch of feathers all over the place. We knew a chicken truck had to be close by and low and behold we caught up to it. Now typically I would see a chicken truck and think nothing of it but after trying to convert my diet to vegetarian I have a different kind of heart for these things.

Meet your MeatYou see that little fellow poking his head through the crate? Poor little chicken. He looked so sad as if he knew he was on his way to be slaughtered. I have this photo on my desktop to remind myself not to eat meat. It is really hard to stick to the fruits and vegetables when you have been eating meat for almost 25 years.

Meet your MeatI just can’t get the image out of my mind of those chickens. Most of them looked very sickly, had feathers ripped out of them, some weird thing poked through their nose, poop everywhere…it was just gross. I know that if a chicken is sick I don’t want to be eating it. Seeing the chicken truck first hand has really fueled my fire to stay on my vegetarian diet.

This Skinny Bitch Goes Organic

May 26, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: "the Diet", Recipes, Books, Domestic Duties

I saw the book, Skinny Bitch, mentioned on the Ellen Show last week while helping my family clean up from the tornado damage. I knew this was a book that I wanted to get based on the rave reviews that Ellen herself gave. She talked about how the book changed her life and also helped her lose weight.

Immediately I ran out to the local bookstore and picked myself up a copy. I have never in my life read a book so quickly. It took only a day to read the book cover to cover. I just simply could not put this book down. The book talks mainly about how it is important to go vegan. If you can’t quit meat or dairy totally, it encourages you to buy all things organic. Organic I can definitely do! I am not saying that I will cut meat out of my diet all together, because I love me some roast beef and mashed potatoes but I am definitely looking at the whole meat thing in a totally different light.

Organic So once I got back home, I was off to go shopping. I went through all the aisles of the grocery store and picked up everything organic that I could find. My main focus was to get as much fresh fruits and vegetables that I could find. I could live off of smoothies so I got a bunch of organic frozen fruit to make those in the morning. One of my main struggles will be giving up white pasta and cheese. I love white pasta and literally eat it every day of the week. I picked up some whole grain alternatives but I know those don’t taste the same. It is all a matter of retraining the way I look at food.

My transition to vegetarianism will be a gradual one. It starts with drinking nothing but water and adding more fruits and vegetables into my diet. One website that has helped me a lot in making the transition into becoming a vegetarian is Go Veg!.

Milk Sucks is another website worth looking at if you want to know the scary truth about our milk. One word….PUSS! That is all I have to say on that matter….EWWW!

OrganicI really hope that you will pick this book up as well. If anything you really need to know about what goes into our meats and how important it is to buy organic if at all possible. Oh and don’t get me started on how awful sodas are (diet and regular). I am totally switching to straight water or juice.

Skinny Bitch is a GREAT book. It is very cheeky by giving the information to you straight forward. Honestly, if you don’t want to hear the truth then you might want to get out of the kitchen because this book is as honest as it gets.

In honor of my attempt at vegetarianism, I will be sharing some of my smoothie recipes later on in the week so stay tuned for that. Now it is time to ask you…

Do you think you could ever turn into a vegetarian or even vegan?

Have you ever tried a vegetarian diet?

What do you think about Organic Foods?

Weighloss before Secret Trip

Apr 14, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: "the Diet", Mommy Matters

Well a month ago I found out I was going on this “secret trip” and well lets just say I still have so post-pregnancy fat hanging on. I wanted to slim down some before the big day but so far I only lost 5 lbs. I know I should be thankful that I am 5 lbs. less but I am still not back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I have never been a person that carried around a lot of weight. I’ve always be trim. So whenever I get fat due to pregnancies, it is really hard for my body to let go of that weight…for some reason. It is so frustrating at times.

Anyway I will look at the bright side and that is that I am going to my “secret trip” five pounds lighter. I will not focus on the other 15 I still have to lose.

Letter to my Body

Mar 27, 2008 Author: The Domestic Diva | Filed under: "the Diet", Mommy Matters

Dear Body,

We’ve got some shaping up to do. You see that calendar marked with that special date in a month, well I would like to look “hawt” on that day. I understand that you have stretch marks and can’t feel your own stomach due to all the scaring. That is fine, I’m not talking about that. You can’t change that. What you can change is that spare tire around your middle and those flabby thighs. The butt, you can keep the butt because I actually like its roundness and so does hubby, *nudge, nudge* if you know what I mean.

So what do you say? Are you in agreement with me? Can we try to meet our goals of ten pounds gone before our “big date”. I know you have 20 lbs. you are dying to see off of you but right now we are focusing on just 10 lbs. Ten lbs. lighter and you will feel better and just might be fitting into those burmuda shorts you are dying to wear on the beach. A bathing suit? We will worry about a bathing suit when we have shed those 10 extra pounds. Embrace your paleness for it is beautiful and that streaky orange mess you keep trying to be tan with doesn’t look good, sister, give it a rest. You are a pale girl and Pale is Beautiful (think Snow White).

Together we will give it 110%!!!!

Love,
the Domestic Diva

As many others, our family is making the resolution to get healthier this year. I still have about 20 lbs of baby fat to lose and my husband since losing his job has gained weight. We are starting to be more active as a family. Going outside at least once a day, weather permitting, and playing games together. As well as playing with my family, I am also trying to do my daily yoga routine and 15 minutes of cycling on the stationary bike. I know that if I keep this active lifestyle up that I will be fit in no time flat.

We are also getting away from all the “junk” that we used to eat. It does help that we have a complete health nut living in our house right now. My brother in law is all about health and fitness. He is an ex-trainer and refuses to eat any of the good stuff. We typically shop for fresh fruits and vegetables at Kroger.

We typically don’t eat out a lot to begin with, only if friends and family are visiting or it is a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary. Mainly we are trying to focus on getting more active as well as eating plenty of fruits and vegetables.

What are you doing more healthily in 2008?

Also, go visit PBN to see what other moms are doing to stay healthy in 2008.
