Being a busy working mommy isn’t easy but teaching your children the importance of what you do and the many “shoes” that you wear can help make the transition a little easier on you and your little one. In the book, Mommy’s High Heel Shoes you will read about one little girl’s curiosity over her mother’s high heeled shoes. She knows that when Mommy wears her high heels that she is off to work but also wonders why mommy has so many different pair of shoes. The story unfolds with curios stories of what mommy does when she wears her high heeled shoes and ends with mommy explaining the role that each pair of shoes play.
This book was so much fun to read. The illustrations are beautiful and I loved how the author added a glimpse of mystery to each page by having you find a ladybug, heart, and cupcake. It was fun to read through the story then go back and find the hidden treasures in each illustration. This is a loved book by my family and I’m sure your family will love to read it as well.
This book is definitely a must have for your book shelf. To get your copy go to the Online Store or at Amazon.
Are you a person that enjoys creating things? Do you have a need to create or recreate? Have you checked out CRAFT: Transforming Traditional Crafts magazine yet? You haven’t? Why not! This magazine is fabulous, full of interesting, neat ideas to help you get your craft on.
I like to think of myself as a crafty person but rarely find the time to actually create something by hand. Although since having the Craft Magazine lying about, I find myself rummaging through the pages looking for ideas to spark my craft desire. I love how this magazine gives you step-by-step instructions on how you can recreate the crafts that they are showcasing on the cover of the magazine and throughout. On a recent edition, They taught you how to take your old converse hightops and turn them into a pair of knitted ones. So cute and looks pretty easy to do as well.
All you crafty crafters out there need to subscribe to this magazine! It is perhaps the best craft magazine I’ve stumbled upon to date!!!
Want to try your hand at crafting or need something to burst your creative juices? Check out craftzine.com and don’t forget to subscribe to the magazine!!!
If you are looking for a good book to read this summer, may I suggest Queen of the Road: The True Tale of 47 States, 22,000 Miles, 200 Shoes, 2 Cats, 1 Poodle, a Husband, and a Bus with a Will of Its Own. Queen of the Road is a hilarious tale of two psychiatrists taking a year long road trip after the self-proclaimed Long Island Princess’s husband has a mid life crisis. One of my favorite lines on the back of the book says….
When Tim suggests “chucking it all” to travel cross-country in a converted bus, Doreen asks, “Why can’t you be like a normal husband in a midlife crisis and have an affair or buy a Corvette?”
That one line in the description of the book had me rolling and I knew that this would be something that I would want to curl up with at night after a long exhausting day with the Kidlets and unwind. Nothing relaxes me like a really good, funny book. This book does just that. It captivates and amuses all the while telling a really great story about two people on an adventure of their lifetime.
Finding Angela Shelton is one of those books that you absolutely can not put down. Once you start reading this book you find yourself taking it with you to the bathroom, to the kitchen while you are cooking, and definitely turning the pages before going to bed. From the second I got my hands on this book, I absolutely could not put it down.
The book, Finding Angela Shelton, is about one woman’s journey across the nation searching for all of the Angela Shelton’s. As she meets each Angela Shelton she discovers a different story but at the same time a chilling reality. Most of the Angela Shelton’s in America that were interviewed had been raped, abused, or molested.
Angela Shelton, the author, is a magnificent woman who tells her own story of sexual abuse that she survived during her childhood. She has grown past this rough period in her life and has gone to do some pretty great things. One of which was making a documentary on her life and the search for others with the same name. Telling the different stories of all the other Angela Shelton’s in the world really has inspired me. It is so wonderful to see someone finally stand up and say enough is enough. Putting a face and a name to Abuse victims is what will ultimately break the cycle. This doesn’t have to be left in secret. It is not dirty, it is not gross, it needs to be spoken about, it needs to be open. If you are a victim of abuse yourself, I encourage you to learn Angela’s story. I also encourage you to stand up and say “no more” this will end with me. You need not be ashamed of what has happened to you, it is not your fault. By speaking up and making it known you inspire other women just like you to speak up on their own behalf creating a movement of women refusing to keep taking abuse as a means of life. Abuse is manipulative, hurtful, and wrong. We as women must stand up for ourselves!
If reading is not your thing, I encourage you to pick up a copy of the DVD Searching For Angela Shelton. Just like the book, the DVD puts faces to abuse victims drawing you in through the stories that they have to tell. Watch as Angela Shelton the writer confronts her own abusive father on Father’s Day. Watch as she loses her cool after her father continually denies all aspects of the abuse that took place during her childhood. The movie and the book are equally powerful and something that you will want to definitely pass on to all your girlfriends. I for one passed the movie onto my own mother to see what kind of reaction she would have. After she finished watching the film, she called me up bawling on the phone. She said that she too was moved by the film and that she wants to personally thank Angela Shelton for sharing her story with us.
I can not tell you how powerful this movie/book is. If I had the means I would buy all of you, my readers, your own copy just so you could experience it for yourself. I’ve never in my life pushed an author so heavily before but I firmly believe that this is something that we all need to spread like wildfire. I have spoken with Angela personally, she is as sweet as sweet can be. She believes so much in her project as do I. By any means necessary we, the “Angela Sheltons” of the world, need to get the word out there. I want to scream from the rooftops GO BUY THIS BOOK! GO WATCH THIS DOCUMENTARY!! if I haven’t made myself clear already.
For more information on abuse, please visit RAINN or check out Angela’s personal website, book site or challenge homepage. Angela Shelton is all over the ‘net on myspace, youtube, and facebook. Go find her, get the word out!!!
I know for me, time-out often doesn’t do the trick always. There are many times where I question if time-out even does the trick at all. Sure they sit there for their alloted time but do they learn anything about what not to do?
The book, Beyond Time-Out: From Chaos to Calm, has really helped my family out a lot. It teaches you as a parent how to tame tantrums, calm fears, instill good sleep habits, end food battles, and overcome potty problems. I don’t have a problem with my younger sons but my older step-sons like to test the limits a little too much for my taste. Thankfully though we haven’t had potty issues for a couple years now since Pnut has been completely potty trained since he was two years old.
I know many mothers are out there that are just like me and know that there are some areas for improvement in our parenting skills. If only kids came with owners manuals. I hope you will check out this book to see what you can learn from it and hopefully improve your parenting style for the better.
The Yummy Mummy Manifesto: Baby, Beauty, Balance, and Bliss is a fun book for all mommies new or pro. The Yummy Mummy Manifesto teaches you how to get a little yumminess back into your hectic Mom life. Life as a Mom doesn’t have to be so drab and dreary full of unkept hair and makeupless faces. Often as Moms we feel as if we have lost our identity. The Yummy Mummy Manifesto helps us to keep the person we know we are and allow her to blossom to her fullest potential all the while holding onto what we love most…being a MOM!
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and think it would be a great addition to any baby shower. Whenever I get stuck in a rut on what to give to a dear mom friend, I know this book will definitely be at the top of my list of great easy gifts to give to them. The writing of this book is funny and real. You will find yourself nodding in agreement with most of what is said in this book. This book takes practical mom life and kicks it up a notch, encouraging you to be who you were destined to be.
I saw the book, Skinny Bitch, mentioned on the Ellen Show last week while helping my family clean up from the tornado damage. I knew this was a book that I wanted to get based on the rave reviews that Ellen herself gave. She talked about how the book changed her life and also helped her lose weight.
Immediately I ran out to the local bookstore and picked myself up a copy. I have never in my life read a book so quickly. It took only a day to read the book cover to cover. I just simply could not put this book down. The book talks mainly about how it is important to go vegan. If you can’t quit meat or dairy totally, it encourages you to buy all things organic. Organic I can definitely do! I am not saying that I will cut meat out of my diet all together, because I love me some roast beef and mashed potatoes but I am definitely looking at the whole meat thing in a totally different light.
So once I got back home, I was off to go shopping. I went through all the aisles of the grocery store and picked up everything organic that I could find. My main focus was to get as much fresh fruits and vegetables that I could find. I could live off of smoothies so I got a bunch of organic frozen fruit to make those in the morning. One of my main struggles will be giving up white pasta and cheese. I love white pasta and literally eat it every day of the week. I picked up some whole grain alternatives but I know those don’t taste the same. It is all a matter of retraining the way I look at food.
My transition to vegetarianism will be a gradual one. It starts with drinking nothing but water and adding more fruits and vegetables into my diet. One website that has helped me a lot in making the transition into becoming a vegetarian is Go Veg!.
Milk Sucks is another website worth looking at if you want to know the scary truth about our milk. One word….PUSS! That is all I have to say on that matter….EWWW!
I really hope that you will pick this book up as well. If anything you really need to know about what goes into our meats and how important it is to buy organic if at all possible. Oh and don’t get me started on how awful sodas are (diet and regular). I am totally switching to straight water or juice.
Skinny Bitch is a GREAT book. It is very cheeky by giving the information to you straight forward. Honestly, if you don’t want to hear the truth then you might want to get out of the kitchen because this book is as honest as it gets.
In honor of my attempt at vegetarianism, I will be sharing some of my smoothie recipes later on in the week so stay tuned for that. Now it is time to ask you…
Do you think you could ever turn into a vegetarian or even vegan?
Have you ever tried a vegetarian diet?
What do you think about Organic Foods?
Were You Raised by Wolves?: Clues to the Mysteries of Adulthood is a book that every young adult she have. I believe there is a problem in our society today where we as parents are way too busy to spend time with our children. As a result our children are growing up not knowing any basic manner skills like how to RSVP, clean a bathroom, or even be a good party guest. Everything is so fast paced that most young people don’t know how to even sit still during a quiet meeting or an elegant dinner. To help a parent or a young adult that doesn’t know how to master the skill of adult hood this book was created to give you the heads up on what is expected of you.

Mama Rock’s Rules is a fun, informative book written by the mother of the famous comedian Chris Rock. Mama Rock gives you ten lessons on how you are able to raise a household of successful children in a very clear and educational way. Mama Rock is a “give it to your straight” kind of mom. You know she means business. With raising ten kids and 17 foster kids, I think Mama Rock knows a thing or two about raising children. I’m sure we can all learn a thing or two about what she has to say.
This book was definitely a page turner for me. I couldn’t put it down. I felt drawn to what Mama Rock had to say and an urge to learn all that I could in hopes of making my kids the best that they can possibly be. Being a first time parent is hard but with great books like these you feel as if you have someone going through the daily battles with you.
Make sure you pick up this book! Be sure to check out PBN to see what other blogger moms are saying.
The Green Guide is a magazine for all you eco-friendly people out there or people out there that are thinking about doing more to save the environment. I had the chance to sample out this magazine and I was thoroughly impressed. In fact, I think the article I wrote about how grocers should dish out discounts for eco-friendly customers should totally be published in there. I was so ecstatic to find more ways to save money and go green all in one fail swoop!!! There were several really great articles on how to go green and save over $60 a week!! A couple tips is to switch to those swirly lightbulbs and another is to lower your thermostat. I would gladly welcome the Green Guide on my coffee table any day of the week. It is very interesting and informative read to say the least.
Hoo-ray for saving money and the planet!
