Check that out. Hubby managed to capture the bean’s first smile, EVER, on film while we were waiting for the doctor to show up this morning in the exam room. Just precious.

1st Doctor’s Appointment

Today the bean had his first doctor’s appointment. Of course he slept the majority of the 2 hour wait because that is what newborns do but for the rest of the family we were about fed up by the time we finally saw the doctor. Pnut especially got a little antsy towards the end which is understandable because by that time it was lunch and nap time. We went in at 10:30 and didn’t leave until almost 1. Rediculous!!!

Now for the weigh in. Friday when hubby took him to the doctor to find out if he was allergic to milk he weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz. which is what he weighed when he left the hospital. And in just the short time from then and being on his new milk he now weighs 8 lbs. That is about an ounce a day which is great says the doctor. His length and head are still the same size….BIG! Overall he is doing great and developing just like he should. So our next check up is in a month. We went ahead and got pnut scheduled for the same time since he needs to be updated on his shots. With moving back and forth so much in the last year pnut hasn’t seen a doctor in that time frame so he will definitely need an update which he will probably hate us for.

Yes, hubby shaved a mo-hawk into his head. Work hasn’t said anything yet so it shall stay. What do you think?

Oh I almost forgot. The doctor said that his jaundice looks to be clearing up on his own and that we do not have to retest him. I’m so happy. I hate having to see him get his little heel pricked. I have noticed that his eyes are starting to appear more white and that the yellow is going away. So, so happy right now.

1 week old

I can’t believe it has already been a week since I gave birth. The bean is doing remarkably well minus our lack of sleep last night. He decided to sleep all afternoon, I’m talking like 6 hours straight so it might just be another long night for us. I think his nights and days are backwards, we need to correct this soon if I ever want to get some sleep.

His eating is amazing. The day after he got out of the hospital he went from eating 2 oz. every 4 hours to wanting to eat 3 oz ever 2 1/2 to 3. The boy likes to eat. He is doing so much better on the soy formula versus the milk. Poopies are getting more solid and I’m not changing as many of them as I was.

His umbilical cord looks as if it could fall off any day now. Which I am so glad because I hate looking at and cleaning that thing. That is just yucky and from the birth story you can tell that I just don’t do yucky very well.

On the jaundice front. The whites of his eyes are starting to be not so yellow in color as well as his skin. We have a doctors appointment in the morning. He will be poked, he will hate it and cry, but we will find out if his billirubin level is dropping or not.

I still can’t believe he is already a week old.

Pnut has a girlfriend!

AHHHH! My little boy is growing up. Today hubby and the pnut went to a church with a girl that my husband works with. She has a 3 yr old little girl that just loves the pnut. Pnut is pretty fond of her as well. I was unable to go due to the fact that I had to stay home with the newborn.

Aren’t they adorable together. They came over after church to see me and the baby. Pnut likes his friend visiting. She brought him some candy and they played swords with their lollipops. At the end of the visit they liked each other’s company so much that they couldn’t stop hugging each other. I was very surprised that they played so well together seeing how pnut usually doesn’t like kids his own age. He likes kids that are older. Well she is technically older but he was the same size as her.

Before Madison got in the car pnut just had to give her one last hug.

Once she was in and buckled up, she screamed from the window “BYE, PNUT!”. Pnut replied with a “BYE, ‘DISON”.

My Little Bean Burrito

What I absolutely love about newborns is that you get to wrap them up like little burritos. They just look so cute all snuggly and warm in their burrito wrap. They almost look good enough to eat….ha ha, just kidding. Check out this photo I snapped of my bean burrito being all cute and snuggly.

Brotherly Resemblance

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Above is a photo of both of my sons just a couple of days after each of them were born. Can you see a resemblance? They both have the same face shape and the same straight dark brown hair. But looking at pnut and then look at the bean you can tell there are some things that are different between the two. For instance pnut has small eyes were as the beans are big and bold. They both have my small, shapely eyebrows. In the mouth region is where the most difference is. The bean definately has my small mouth. I don’t have much lips and neither does the bean. Pnut had a nice big fat bottom lip and to this day still does. And as we recently found out that the bean is lactose intolerant and the pnut isn’t. Funny how they are similar yet so different.

The bean goes back from whence he came…

ha ha ha. As you all know a couple weeks back I did a belly cast of my 35 week pregnant stomach. Well I decide to take a picture of the bean laying in his former stomach home. I think it looks pretty neat.

Look at those chubby cheeks….He is so Squishy! LOL I just love it. Here is a Photo of Belly Cast hanging on the wall in the nursery.

Update on the jaundice and lactose intolerance. The bean is looking a little less orange/yellow today. The whites of his eyes are still yellow though. He has been on the soy formula since last night and seems to be doing ok, I guess. His stomach still flips when he eats and he usually poops right afterwards. But the poop has turned more solid and not straight liquid like last night so that is a good thing. It is back to the same consistency it was at the hospital. I feel so bad for the squishy. He looks like it hurts him when he poops. Because of the diarrhea he has a little bit of diaper rash and if he continues to poop the way he is doing then I don’t know how I’m going to get it cleared up. Upon talking with hubby about his lactose intolerance problem he told me that when he was a baby he had to have goats milk to eat. But that was 30 something years ago so hopefully the soy today is equivalent to the goats milk back then. We have a doctors appointment Tuesday, we will see what the doctor says. I hope he gets a little better between now and then.

Nursery

I know a lot of ya’ll want to know what the bean’s nursery looks like. I had mentioned over at Belly Bean that I had made several items for his room. First of all here are the pictures…

The items that I made for the nursery are….

  • The curtains. My mother and I made them from a pattern and these were what I was stamping just hours before I went to the hospital for delivery.
  • The lamp shade. I cut out fabric some fabric from the remain bolt of green that we made the curtains from and glued it to a lamp shade. Then I stamped it with the same dragonfly stamp that I used on the curtains.
  • I made a blanket that is the green curtain fabric on one side with dragonflies stamped on it and on the reverse is a grey sweatshirt material for warmth.
  • I created a diaper pale cover so I didn’t have to look at the ugly container
  • Isn’t that just the cutest nursery crib set you’ve ever seen. We found it at a huge baby sale that a local church was having. I think we paid like $20 for it. It came with the dust ruffle, 3 pair of sheets, bumper, coverlet, and diaper caddy. I am totally in love with the sage green color. This is the same crib set that I have and the inspiration room for the nursery. Notice the description it comes with a coverlet, 4 sided bumper, dust ruffle, and fitted sheet for $178.20. I’d say we made a really good deal! I can’t imagine paying that much for a crib set though, that is rediculous. In the next couple of weeks I will more than likely make a matching shoe rack and laundry hamper insert since I still have some green fabric leftover.

So what do you think of the DIY nursery? Pretty swank, huh? Well I think so. Oh and btw don’t look at the awful wood paneling, I can’t help that I try to hide it as much as possible.

    Daddy’s Little Helper

Pnut is taking surprisingly well to his new baby brother. He won’t give the bean kisses yet but we are making progress. Pnut loves to help feed the baby. Whenever the baby starts to cry pnut will rush to the fridge and grab a bottle. Also when the bean cries, pnut says “Shhhhh! Tayleb”. It is so cute. I love that he isn’t mad at me for having another kid. I love how he is trying to interact with him.

Yesterday after I had fed the bean I was kinda scratching his back to try to get him to squirm a burp out, this usually works when he doesn’t burp from the patting, well pnut thought that I was tickling him. So pnut came up to the bean and started to tickle him saying “Tickle, tickle, tickle”. Ha Ha.

Other than tickling, pnut won’t touch the baby. Maybe he thinks he will hurt him. He says “night night baby tayleb, love you” when it is time to go to sleep but wont give him hugs and kisses. At least he is not angry at the bean for being here and taking the spotlight away, that is my only concern.

*Update* Ok, scratch what I just said. Pnut just came up to the bean and gave him a big bear hug right before he took his nap. As he leave the room he says “night, night, baby tayleb”. AWWWWW! it just melts my heart

    Elmo Baby

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Before I gave birth to the bean, I was on the hunt for the perfect baby type stuffy for the pnut. I wanted something that did baby things to give to the pnut when I had the bean. The reasoning behind this is so that the pnut doesn’t feel left out and feels as if he is helping and taking care of something just like mommy is. I looked all over and finally on ebay I saw it. The absolute perfect baby and it was an elmo too! Elmo is pnuts favorite character. We have elmo and sesame street everything in this house so to have a baby elmo just seemed appropriate. Pnut took to baby elmo very well, more so than with his brother at first. Whenever I feed the bean or hold him, pnut comes to me and says “wait a minute, be right back, ok?” He will run to his room or wherever baby elmo was seen last and bring him to me/daddy. He will then mimic whatever me or hubby are doing. The baby elmo doll kicks his feet, cries, says mama, dada, baba, and burps which is pnuts favorite part. Elmo baby is dressed up just like he was taken from the hospital with a onesie, hat, hospital bracelet, blankie, and bottle. It is so adorable. I am so glad that pnut loves it too!
