1 week old

May 28th, 2007 by the kidlet tamer

I can’t believe it has already been a week since I gave birth. The bean is doing remarkably well minus our lack of sleep last night. He decided to sleep all afternoon, I’m talking like 6 hours straight so it might just be another long night for us. I think his nights and days are backwards, we need to correct this soon if I ever want to get some sleep.

His eating is amazing. The day after he got out of the hospital he went from eating 2 oz. every 4 hours to wanting to eat 3 oz ever 2 1/2 to 3. The boy likes to eat. He is doing so much better on the soy formula versus the milk. Poopies are getting more solid and I’m not changing as many of them as I was.

His umbilical cord looks as if it could fall off any day now. Which I am so glad because I hate looking at and cleaning that thing. That is just yucky and from the birth story you can tell that I just don’t do yucky very well.

On the jaundice front. The whites of his eyes are starting to be not so yellow in color as well as his skin. We have a doctors appointment in the morning. He will be poked, he will hate it and cry, but we will find out if his billirubin level is dropping or not.

I still can’t believe he is already a week old.

[…] Last night was pretty much the worst night of sleep that I have had since being home from the hospital. What a way to mark the “1 week” postpartum mark for me and the bean. I don’t know what was going on with the bean last night but he would wake up every hour like clock work. I fed him but then an hour later he would act like he was starving. A pacifier wasn’t calming him. Maybe he was having bad “baby dreams”. Who knows? I do know that he slept 6 hours straight this afternoon so chances of us having a good nights sleep tonight are looking slim. I have a tactic for that though and that is a nice soothing bath right before I am ready to lay down. Hopefully I will be able to get a couple of hours of sleep in a row. I was able to sneak a nap in this afternoon while both of the boys were taking theres. That 1 1/2 hrs really did make a difference. […]

I know EXACTLY what you mean about the umbilical cord stump…ewwwwwwww!!!! My mom opened Jayda’s sleeper this evening to find it off, and stuck to the sleeper. Double ewwwwww!!! The worst part was it was SO smelly…I kept smelling this disgusting odor and I realized today that it was her bellybutton. Triple ewwww! I am SSSOOOOOOOO happy that it fell off. Here’s hoping your sons falls off soon too!!!!
