Jaundice?
When pnut was born he had jaundice and had to be place in light therapy for a period of time in the children’s hospital the day after we were discharged. Having the bean I knew that it was a possibility that he would have the same thing. Today, 4 days after his birth, we decided to call the doctor for the second time. They let us leave the hospital Wednesday and said that his billirubin levels were just fine and that he wasn’t jaundice but his yellow skin and eyes as well as a mother’s intuition states otherwise. When we called the pediatrician yesterday they said that if the hospital said he was fine and that we could leave then he doesn’t have jaundice. If I am looking at my son as yellow as the sun with the whites of his eyes not the slightly color or white but rather yellow then I say he has jaundice. I did some research on the internet and it said that you could put him in front of a sunny window and that will help break down the billirubin. Well it hasn’t been all that sunny so that obviously wasn’t an option.
Fast forward to today. Today he was fine, he’s been trying to stay up a while after he eats so he can explore our world but I noticed that he was having a lot of poopy diapers. Like everytime he would pass gas he would pass poopy as well. Well just a couple of hours ago I tried to change a poopy diaper while he was a sleep and then all of a sudden he just exploded. We had pee shooting to the ceiling and poopy going to the floor. LOL. I get him all cleaned up and what do you know he poops again but I notice this time it is more watery. So I suspect he has diarrhea. Instead of waiting to see if he has another bout of it, I tell hubby to call the doctor. I take his temperature while hubby is on the phone and it is at 97.3 °F. On the discharge papers that we received it said that a temp below 97.6F or over 99.6F then you should call the doctor. Diarrhea was also on the list of symptoms to call the doc about.
Well the pediatrician said bring him in. So hubby is now at the pediatricians office finding out what is wrong with the bean. As soon as they left I had a mini melt down because I wanted to be the one that took him to the hospital to have his “ouchies” fixed.

*UPDATE* Hubby just called and said that the pediatrician said he is allergic to the formula that he is taking [Similac Advance]. He gave us some new milk to last the weekend and told hubby that he thinks he has jaundice….like I stated two days ago….and that he has to go back to the hospital to have his billirubin levels checked again.
I wish I could be there with them right now. I miss my “squishy” all ready. But I suppose it is for the best because pnut is sleeping and I need to stay put and recover. Everything will be fine, I hope.
**UPDATE to the UPDATE** Hubby came home and said that the bean is lactose intolerant just like he is. He has to be put on special formula, like soy or something similar. They checked his billirubin and the level wasn’t high enough to where he would need to under go light therapy. We have a doctor’s appointment for Tuesday. From now until then I’ll try to keep him in a sunny window as much as possible to try to break up the billirubin. I’m just glad that nothing is majorly wrong with my “squishy”. It sucks that he is lactose intolerant because that means he will have the same struggles as my husband.
