So earlier this week I really buckled down and started pnut on his potty training.  My goal is to have him completely potty trained and out of pampers by the time his sibling is born in late May.  That gives us roughly 6 mos. to get this potty training thing down pat.

To start off potty training I had pnut run around the house butt booty naked.  We mainly stayed in the living room and kitchen which has nice tile floors for easy clean up of messes.  Whenever he would start to go, I’d tell him to “stop, go to the potty and pee pee”.  He’d immediately stop the stream and rush to the bathroom to finish up his business on the potty chair.  The reason for this is to get him to realize what if feels like to have to go and to know to go in the potty and not on the floor.

We started this on Monday, by Thursday he has gotten the hang of “going” and when he needs to go he will run to the bathroom or tell me “boo-boo” which means I have to go to the bathroom.  Thursday was a break through day for us.  It started in the late afternoon when he started to go pee pee in the living room [keep in mind I was in the back of the house], he immediately stopped what he was doing and went into the bathroom all by himself and went pee-pee on top of the potty chair.  I had put the potty chair lid down when he wasn’t using it and apparently he couldn’t get it opened so he just sat on top of the lid and went.  Not his fault.  Completely mine.  But it is good that he knew to go to the bathroom and where to pee pee.  He immediately came and got me and told me “boo boo”.  So I rushed to see where the “accident” was.  To my surprise it was actually in the bathroom.  I was so proud.  So this time after we cleaned up our mess, we left the potty seat UP so if he decided to try to go by himself that he could just sit down with no problem.  And sure enough, an hour later he went to the bathroom again, all by himself and pee pee’d in the potty.  After he was finished he rushed to find me and told me he “boo boo’d”.  Oh, was I proud of my little boy.

We have sort of a reward system.  Each time he pee-pee’s or boo-boo’s in the potty he gets a bowl with some nerds candy.  He loves nerds candy.  He knows by now that he gets some nerds candy for using the potty so he will ask me for the “bowl”.  I tell him no if he hasn’t used the potty and he’ll sit down and try to go.  If he just can’t go he’ll tell me “no pee pee’s”.  So cute.

He is a quick learner…knock on wood.  Now we just have to figure out how to make boo boo’s in the potty.

congrats on the progress! So the potty seat im assuming is one of those small ones that sits on the ground? Thats nice to have because he can get to it himself. Caleb cant get to his potty himself yet… but my friend Lis told me her daughter Providence (a month younger than Caleb) now can get on the toilet all by herself by climbing on the bath-tub ledge HAHA (they have a small bathroom). So maybe with the help of his toilet stool he will do that soon as well.

    Any how.
Best of luck! Just keep on him… a nd stay consistant!!! take chances… the 1st time I drove 30 minutes away from home to shop with Caleb in big boy undies was a risk… but I took it. And I really believe because of that he is doing really well.

Yes the potty seat is one of the ones that sits on the ground. It is a 3 in one, it acts as a potty on the ground, you can take the seat off and put it on the big potty and it is a stool. My mother got it at a yard sale pretty cheap. It is great. I just wish it had elmo on it or something. It is just boring blue in color but it gets the job done.

Yeah, I’ll start trying to do the chance thing once I get those training underwears from ebay. I notice when he wears clothes that he wont go to the potty. So another week or so running free he should get the hang of it and we will work on clothes next then going to the store.

He did so good today. He went in the potty all day long. No accidents accept when it came time to boo-boo but other than that pee pee’s all day in the potty. He was so cute. He’d come running up to me and tell me he had to pee pee so we’d rush to the potty and he’d try and try but nothing would happen. He’d look at me and say “no pee pee’s” in the sweetest voice. So I’d say that is ok and then we’d repeat that pattern in 5 mins. He’d keep doing that till he went. He knew he had to go he just couldn’t make himself go. He’s kinda scared to boo boo on the potty though. But he’ll get it soon.

Its funny how each kid is different.
Caleb actually began pooping in the potty way before peeing.
I had him going for almost a month solid back in June (he woudl of been like 21 months then). But after that airport scare things went sour.

The training undies are nice. You can get them at walmart if you ever need more. They are located in the infant ONESIE section, not underwear section. They come with 3 in a pack and are like 6.50. I love them.
Its thick enough to block their pee if they start to go. Caleb realizes very quickly now if he begins to pee and will stop it… Had he not had the thicker undies on though it get his pants wet.

    Any how..
Im glad your rewarding him :-)
I reward Caleb sometimes. Not as much now as I use to :-)
He use to get a gumball each time he’d go. Now though he goes so often he hardly ever ask me for candy.

Any how. Got to go get ready :-)
And thats okay the seat is plain! You can elmo-fy it yourself if you want haha.

About the Boy

Hello, my name is P-nut. I'm the first born and my momma's heart. I'm a very well-behaved toddler. I've been sleeping in my big boy bed since August of 2006 and I've gave up my pacey sometime in September of the same year. I'm growing up, Mama! I love playing with my dog, "DoJo" and learning my letters. I could watch Elmo and Sesame Street all day long if Mommy would let me.
