Easy Homemade Waffles Recipe - Better Than Waffle House
Want to make the best homemade waffles ever! This easy Waffle House copycat recipe tastes even better because they are homemade. Fluffy waffles made in minutes with or without buttermilk. No need for a fancy belgian waffle maker. You can make this simple waffle recipe using any waffle maker.
Then, in a stand mixer with a whisk attachment. Mix together flour, salt, baking soda, sugar, and shortening (or coconut oil) on low speed for several minutes until the texture is a bit like sand. The whisk attachment on your stand mixer will do all the work of cutting the shortening (or coconut oil) into your flour mixture so that it is evenly distributed throughout. Just make sure there are no large lumps of shortening (or coconut oil) in your mix before adding the wet ingredients.
Next, pour wet ingredients, milk/vinegar mixture, heavy cream, eggs, and vanilla extract, into your flour mixture. With your stand mixer and the whisk attachment, mix the wet and dry ingredients together on low-medium speed until combined. Do not overmix.
Heat your waffle iron according to your specific waffle irons instructions.
Ladle the appropriate amount of batter into your waffle iron. DO NOT OVERFILL Waffle Iron. Close the lid and cook until golden brown. Cook time will vary based on your waffle iron.* Continue this step until all batter has been cooked into waffles.
Serve waffles with your favorite syrup or toppings.

If you do not have buttermilk, it is easy to make your own. Stir 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar into 1 1/4 cup of whole milk (instead of buttermilk like the recipe calls for). Let it sit for 5 minutes before mixing it into the waffle batter.
I use a square waffle iron* that uses approximately 1/4 cup of batter for each waffle square. This recipe yields 22 square shaped waffles. Yield will vary depending on the size and shape of the waffle iron you use to cook this waffle batter.
