Acne is no fun. I’ve struggled with pimples my entire life. Even though I’m now in my thirties, that doesn’t mean I still don’t struggle with blemishes. My acne is hormonal based and stress induced, so I have flare ups from time to time that can put a damper on my spirit. Learning how to mask these tiny imperfections with makeup is something I’ve figured out through trial and error over the years. Today, I’m sharing my tried and true way to conceal an unsightly blemish. While this method will not heal pimples, it can make them a little less noticeable in your finishes makeup look.

What You Need in your Makeup Bag to Conceal Blemishes, Acne, Pimples, or Redness: Quick and Easy

You need two things in your makeup bag to quickly and easily conceal a blemish: powder foundation in a shade that matches your skintone the best, and a small concealer brush. Like I mentioned in my “how to conceal dark circles” post, the type of powder foundation doesn’t matter, high-end or drugstore, so long as it works well with your skin type and matches your skin tone as close as possible. I prefer drugstore products, so I just use any drugstore powder foundation that I can find. A small concealer brush, I use the concealer brush from the EcoTools Starter Kit, is also needed in order to target and place product directly where needed.

How to Conceal a Pimple with Makeup

It is so easy to conceal a blemish with powder foundation. First, take your small concealer brush and press some of the powder foundation onto the tip of the brush. Lightly tap off of some of the excess off into the cap. Then press the powder foundation onto the spot that you want to conceal. Apply more or less product until the redness is concealed and the spot is less visible. Be sure to blend out the edges of where you placed the powder foundation so that everything blends together seamlessly.

How to Easily Cover Up Acne with Makeup

As you can see in the above and after photos above, that the few small blemishes, that are currently in the process of healing, are a little less visible after applying powder foundation on top of them. While I have tried various combinations of concealers, foundations, etc. in the past, the powder foundation has worked out the best for me and is the technique that I always eventually go back to. Since the area that has a blemish tends to be a bit more oily, I feel like the powder foundation stays put a bit better than a cream product would. Because the powder foundation matches your skin tone, it almost blends seamlessly into your entire look. I “spot conceal” after applying all of my makeup. Whenever I apply foundation, concealer, and powder I still have a few “trouble spots” peeking through, so that is the time that I spot conceal with my powder foundation to “erase” those imperfections from my finished makeup look.

How to Spot Conceal Any Blemish: Quick and Easy Way to Hide Imperfections with Makeup

I always keep a concealer brush and some powder foundation with me in my travel makeup bag that I keep in my purse for unexpected blemish appearances or touch-ups throughout the day. Big or small, old or new, this method of concealing these pesky imperfections in life has saved my makeup look many times over.
