When a friend or family member comes to stay at your house for a few nights during the holidays there are a few things that we all do. One of them is to clean our house from top to bottom. I know I’m not the only one that does this. As soon as someone tells me that they are coming over, I make sure that all of our “family” areas are as neat and tidy as they possibly can be. But there are a few other extra steps that one can take to make sure that family and friends are as comfortable as possible while staying with you during the holidays.
As a Walmart Mom, I was asked to share some preparations that I do to my home to get it ready for holiday guests. There are many of Walmart’s Top 100 gifts for home that one could use to prepare your home for guests like the Keurig 2.0 K300 brewing system which is a great way to make a variety of beverages for guests either in a carafe or in individual cups. Immediately what I think of when someone is going to stay the night at my house is where are they going to sleep? Many have guest bedrooms but at our home there is no spare room. So we have to come up with alternative sleeping. For many this may be an air mattress or using a child’s bedroom. Whether it’s an air mattress, spare bedroom, or the couch one way to make a guest feel welcomed into your home is nice, clean sheets. Walmart carries a variety of affordable sheet options. My favorite is Mainstays fitted sheet ($4.97), flat sheet ($4.97), and pillow cases (standard 2 pack- $5.47). Mainstays offers a variety of basic, simple sheets in number of colors and patterns to match your bedroom decor. These affordable Mainstay sheets are great for holiday guests or any time of year.
Chances are when you have friends and family hanging out at your house you may be watching a movie or two. What better way to welcome guests to your home by setting up a gift basket for them in the room that they will be staying in. Inside of the basket include a warm, soft blanket that they can cuddle up in while they watch movies with you and also take home with them when they leave as a gift. Better Homes and Gardens makes some of the softest blankets I have ever felt. Whenever they come out with a new blanket, I immediately add it to my “must get” list. Seriously, you need to feel these in the store? They are so soft and feel so good when you are cuddled up on the couch watching movies at night. The Better Homes and Gardens Faux Fur throw ($15.88) is a perfect example of an incredibly soft blanket that guests will leave you home telling all their friends about.
Another way to welcome guests into your home is with a warm and inviting scent, Better Homes and Gardens also has a variety of candles that smell amazing. Place one in your guest room to fill the entire room with a welcoming fragrance. Since we don’t have a fireplace in our home, my favorite Better Homes and Gardens candle scent is Warm Crackling Campfire ($5.97). It just reminds me of the holidays. The large 18 oz size will fill your home with this holiday scent for hours.
A few more finishing touches one can do to make a home warm and inviting for guests is to provide them with their own towel. Walmart has a great selection of inexpensive towels, like sheets, in a variety of colors to match your decor so one can easily freshening up the look of your bathroom, which is probably one of the most frequently visited room in your home. Mainstays bath towels are just $2.97.
Last but not least, guests are probably going to want a cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or tea in the morning so surprise them by placing a coffee cup gift for them in the guest room. This Starbucks Coffee Cup gift Set ($5.00) comes with a mug that they can take home and some peppermint hot chocolate they can enjoy sipping on in the morning.
