Today I’m feeling a little under the weather, so for this weeks Whipped Up Wednesday we are going to focus on a dessert that I made for my Dad on Father’s Day.
Cake
1 box yellow cake mix
milk
Filling
2 packages vanilla instant pudding
2 cups milk
1 tub of whipped topping
Topping
4 oz semisweet chocolate
1/4 cup heavy whipping creme
Make cake according to package directions substituting milk for water in two 9 inch baking pans. Bake according to directions.
While cake is baking prepare cream filling. Mix together pudding and milk until combined and thick. Fold in whipped topping. Refrigerate until cake is cooled.
After cake comes out of oven, in a double boiler melt down and combine the semisweet chocolate with heavy whipping creme. Set aside to cool.
Once cake and semisweet chocolate topping are both cooled begin to assemble the cake. Place one layer of cake face down on serving plate. Top with filling mixture. Place second layer of cake, face up on the filling. Pour chocolate filling on top layer of cake allowing to drip along the sides.
Keep cake refrigerated until ready to serve. This cake fully assembled with keep for a couple of days in the refrigerator.
So far I have really enjoyed answering all of the questions that have come pouring in since I started doing FAQ Tuesdays. This week we have another great question…
What is your daily routine like? How much time do you spend on Vlogging and your website and what do you do with the rest of the day?
-NurseMommyRN
We don’t have a set schedule per say but I can tell you what we typically do in a day. When we wake up I typically go for coffee. I don’t know how or why I started on my coffee fixation but it is something that I crave in the mornings now. I’m not a breakfast type person so coffee does it for me. My morning routine consists of me & my cup of coffee out on my deck with the birds chirping reading through emails that I received over night and checking blogs on my RSS feed reader. I start my morning out this way, nearly every single day. It is what gets me going. I find out what news I need to know from the blogs, what new projects I might need to consider, and typically twitter what I am thinking about doing for the day. This gets my brain going in work mode.
Typically I don’t do much work on the computer during the day unless the kidlets are having a movie day, or taking a nap. I try to save my time on the computer for after they have gone to bed. This is also the time when I often make my vlogs. I dont know if you have ever tried to make a video with the kids awake but it can be a very daunting task, with them talking in the background, etc. So I’ve learned that it is best to just wait until they have gone to sleep so I can sit down concentrate and just work. Sometimes though this doesn’t always work out the best, because there are days when after the kidlets go to bed (like tonight) I am just as equally tired and want to crawl into my own bed and call it a night. So on days like those I will either listen to what my body tells me or try to get as much work done as possible. Other nights are completely different though, I will be wired with ideas running through my head that I just have to type out. These are my most productive nights that can last until 4 or 5 in the morning. On nights where I am really productive I try to write posts in advance so I can have something to fall back on if something is to happen and I’m not able to write a post that night.
Vlogging. It seems to be what I am most known for, at least that is what people tell me. I’ve been around the block in vlogging, teaching myself everything that I know through trial and error. If you ever see one of my earlier videos you will know how far I have come. Vlogging for me now-a-days typically takes place once a week. I will take one day, maybe a Saturday or something and record several videos at once. Editing can take some time to do. So I like to get the material recorded for several different projects all at once, so that I can spend the rest of the time editing them throughout the week without having to worry about doing another video shoot. Once all of the video projects have been shot, edited, and posted to the web (typically 2-3 vlog projects a week) then the cycle continues.
Working from home (blogging) and our routine is all about finding the right time that will be the most productive. For me it is at night when everyone else is asleep and I can think. This doesn’t mean that my days aren’t productive as well, since becoming an iPhone owner my days have become as equally productive without me having to be stuck behind a computer desk. I will often be seen with my iPhone in hand. This is my work tool. Twitter, emails, and blogs are 3 of the main things that I do on my iPhone throughout the day. Before the iPhone I would spend most of my nights going through my inbox and replying to emails but now that I am able to do this quickly and easily on my phone throughout the day so it doesn’t pile up I don’t have to worry about my full inbox when I sit down at night to work, I can just sit down and get right to the work part. So during the day I’m running ideas in my head about what to do on the blog, keeping up with my inbox, and responding on twitter all the while spending quality time with the kidlets which is the most important. My nights on the other hand is all business.
So thank you, NurseMommyRN, for asking the question for this week’s FAQ Tuesdays. I hope this post gave you a little insight into the goings on behinds the scenes here at thedomesticdiva.org.
If YOU have a question you’ve been wanting to ask leave it the comment section of this post or ask me on Twitter using the hashtag #TDDiva. You just might see it in a future posting of FAQ Tuesdays.

Today I am starting a new topic here at thedomesticdiva.org called “Fashioned” which will highlight all of the fashion finds I come across whether it be for a review or just when I’m out shopping on my own. Since many of you have already requested for me to show more of my “style”, I thought this post would be the perfect introduction to launch into “Fashioned!” our new fashion based online series.
So today on “Fashioned!” we are highlighting a company that I think is absolutely awesome. The Bomb Mom is an online shop that specializes in the cutest t-shirts for moms and kids. The one I am wearing in the photo above was given to me by one of the owners of The Bomb Mom and I have to say that I absolutely love it. Not only is the t-shirt comfortable but it is also very unique by declaring my “cool status” with metallic lettering and rhinestoned “bomb”.
So far I have no complaints about this shirt. This super soft and comfortable t-shirt adds a little “bling” into your everyday life. It also holds up beautifully in the wash! The t-shirts are in the price range of $28 for women with toddler & babies being $22-$25. T-shirt and jeans kind of moms will love this shirt. I can definitely see this shirt being a great gift item for new moms at baby showers or something extra special on Mother’s Day.
So head on over to thebombmom.com to check out what all they have to offer.
Disclosure: yes thebombmom.com sent this t-shirt to me, regardless I still think it is awesome!
Since having the opportunity to try out a filtering water pitcher in the past, I’ve been on the hunt to find a faucet mount water filtration system. I really love the idea of being able to filter my water directly from the tap versus having to buy filtered water in bottles or jugs. Not only does it save me money but it also saves waste in the landfill.
Lucky enough I was recently approached by a spokesperson for PUR Water Filtration Systems to try out one of their latest products called PUR Flavor Options. And hey what do you know, not only does it come in a pitcher form but also in a faucet mount, exactly what I was looking for. I was so excited to get this product in my own home and test it out. With the help of my husband, the install of the faucet mount was really easy. With a little flick of a knob I can go from unfiltered water to filtered in no time flat. Also what is great about the “Flavor Options” is that it give you just that….FLAVOR! I don’t know about you but sometimes drinking just plain, ol’ water can get a little….well…uninteresting. Sometimes I just want a little something extra. With the Flavor Options I am able to pump as much “flavoring” that I want into my water as it dispenses to give a whole new twist to drinking my daily recommended amounts of water. And I must add that the “flavors” are really tasty. The one I received came with a raspberry flavor pack, which is my favorite flavor to begin with.
The PUR Flavor Options has not only helped me drink more water but also other members in my family as well. I also find myself filtering water more and more for cooking or making coffee in the morning.
The PUR folks had one thing to say that I found rather interesting….
Fun Fact for the Domestic Diva’s readers: Eco-friendly and Wallet –friendly: You can save up to $600 a year if you switch from bottled water to filter water!
