Embracing my Curly Girl Side
Several months back I read that one of my blogging friends, Amy of MomAdvice, to go back to her no-pooing way of hair washing called Curly Girl. For those of you that don’t know, no-poo means not using shampoo to wash one’s hair. She talked about how she was trying to embrace her inner Curly Girl and how sometimes it can be a struggle to let the wild curls run free. But I was immediately intrigued by the idea of not washing one’s hair with shampoo.
So I started doing my own research. I picked up the book from the library and immediately read it in one sitting. I found out what type of curl my hair is naturally which shocked me quite a bit. Here all these years of straightening and I was thinking that my hair was just wavvy but now after reading the book I found out that I have Botticelli Curls like Sarah Jessica Parker (love her).
It’s been more than six weeks now since I’ve started the Curly Gurl method and I’m hoping to never look back to my old ways of hair styling. Some days its a struggle to embrace the curl, I’m not a going to lie, but on those days I simply where my hair in a ponytail.
The Curly Girl Method Wikihow
page really helped me to learn how to do the curly girl method described in the famous book
has a wealth of information about taking care of curly hair with very helpful forums.
For those of you that may have been wondering what my new look is all about (seen in my latest youtube videos), now you know. For those of you Curly Girl fans out there I’d love to hear your own personal stories with any tips & tricks.
What products do you use on the Curly Girl Method?
I definitely haven’t mastered the curly girl method by any means and am constantly learning on how to improve my curl. But for right now, which may change next week, my routine is this:
Co-Wash hair with Suave Naturals Coconut Conditioner
Comb hair with wide toothed comb in shower
Lightly Rinse with Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition
Plopping with one of my husband’s t-shirts :)
Air Dry with Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse
One of the main reasons why I’m currently in love with the Curly Girl method is time! I would spend 30 minutes on my hair just about every day blow drying and straightening. Now when I’m out of the shower all I have to do is put on my makeup and let my hair air-dry itself. Very easy!
For those of you interested in the Curly Girl method, my suggestion to you would be to look up the book at your local library or do a google search on the curly girl method.
Have a Curl-Tastic Day!
