Over the past couple of years, I’ve really gotten into essential oils. Even though essential oils aren’t something I talk about often, I wanted to share with all of you an easy diy jewelry tutorial for an essential oil aromatherapy diffuser necklace. I love the challenge of do-it-yourself projects and while I have had my eye on some diffuser necklaces for essential oils they can be quite pricey. It is so easy to make these aromatherapy necklaces yourself using supplies that can be found at most craft stores. I personally like to shop at Michael’s more than other craft stores because it is closer to my house but other craft stores may carry similar supplies.
Supplies You’ll Need:
- Metal Locket with holes and solid back if possible (I’m using this Blue Moon Lotus Amulet Metal Locket from Michael’s)
- 1 bail that matches your locket
- about 24 inches of Hemp string (2.7m)
- jewelry pliars
- 2 spring coils
- 3 jump rings
- 1 jewelry clasp & connector lengthening chain
- Felt in your favorite colors
To make your essential oils aromatherapy diffuser necklace first start by cutting out circles from your pieces of felt that will fit inside of the locket. Then, cut the piece of hemp string the length that you want. I opted to cut mine at around 24 inches so that I can layer it with other necklaces. Attach the locket to the hemp string by using a bail and jump ring. At the end of either piece of string attach the spring coils pinching the bottom coil to the piece of string using a pair of pliars. If you are unsure how to attach spring coils to a piece of string, this tutorial on youtube may be able to help. Once your spring coils are securely attached to both end of your string next attach your clasp and connector chain with two additional jump rings to either end of the string.
To use your diy essential oils aromatherapy diffuser necklace, place a piece of felt inside of the locket. Drop a few drops of your favorite essential oils onto the piece of felt, close the locket and enjoy the pleasant aromatherapy. If you don’t know where to find affordable essential oils, I personally like Eden’s Garden. Walmart also has recently started carrying a few essential oils in their stores. The oils only need to be reapplied to the felt when you can no longer smell them when it is worn. If you are changing the essential oil that you are using it is best to also change out the felt piece inside of the locket as well. When I purchased the felt for my locket I opted to pick a few of my favorite colors so that I could easily remember what oils I put on each piece of felt. Plus, one sheet of felt will yield a lot of tiny circles that can fit in a magnetic closure locket.
I love the look of this locket. It has a lotus flower on it which is a symbol that is often associated with purity. When worn it helps to promote fertility, prosperity, and spirituality. The Blue Moon line of jewelry trinkets at Michael’s is one of my favorite lines to make my own jewelry out of. This is a very simple locket used to diffuse your favorite essential oils for everyday aromatherapy. I will more than likely be adding to this necklace by adding some small charms and trinkets to it to make it completely unique. That is the best part about making your own jewelry is that it is simple to customize to your own individual style.
My husband even commented on how much he liked my necklace. I think he is a little jealous that I didn’t make him one. I guess I’ll need to add that to my craft to-do list.
