I love a challenge. I especially love a challenge that gives me the opportunity to show off my creative side. As a part of the Walmart Moms, I was sent a mystery box from Rust-Oleum. My challenge was to take whatever I was sent and transform it using Rust-Oleum paints or stains of my choice. Exciting, right? I was more than excited to find out what would be in my “mystery box”. Once my box arrived, I peeked inside and was shocked to find metal clipboards.
You may be scratching your head at this point. How can you transform plain metal clipboards with Rust-Oleum paint other than simply spraying it a solid color? Well, you are in for a treat because I have an amazing DIY project to share with you that requires very few supplies that one can easily find at their local Walmart store.
I’ve been loving the galaxy trend I’ve been seeing everywhere lately. So I used that as my inspiration to create a galaxy inspired clipboard using beautiful pastel Rust-Oleum spray paints that I found at my local Walmart store. The beauty of this diy project is that it can be completely customized to your own personal tastes. I love lighter colors but one could easily use darker more bold colors to get an even more contrasted galaxy look to their clipboards.
The colors I am using to transform my boring metal clipboards are Rust-Oleum American Accents Ultra Cover 2X in Gloss candy pink, ocean mist, and white. While I was picking up my color choices of Rust-Oleum spray paint at my local Walmart I also picked up a roll of paper towels as well as some masking tape. Rust-Oleum American Accents Ultra Cover 2X is pretty awesome stuff. This fast drying spray paint can be used for both indoor and outdoor projects. With double cover technology Rust-Oleum American Accents Ultra Cover 2X can be used to tackle a variety of diy projects as it easily covers wood, metal, and even plastic!
To create your own DIY Galaxy Clipboard for your home office or for school, start with a clean metal clipboard. Because I wanted to have some geometric shapes in my design I took some regular masking tape and placed the tape across the metal clipboard in varying angles. Once I had the masking tape down in the pattern I liked, I then took my metal clipboards outside and on some old cardboard boxes I sprayed the clipboards with the 3 colors of Rust-Oleum American Accents Ultra Cover 2X that I chose. Once I sprayed the colors onto my clipboard I then took a crumpled up paper towel and dabbed it onto the paint. I repeated the adding paint and dabbing with the paper towel to add texture and to help the colors blend seamlessly with one another. Once I was finished and had achieved the look I wanted I allowed the clipboard to dry outside completely.
I love the way that these clipboards turned out. The galaxy geometric pattern is really cute and very unique. I’m excited to use these clipboards during our homeschool lessons with my boys. If you would like to recreate this diy project you can find all of the supplies you need in Walmart stores from metal clipboards to Rust-Oleum spray paints.
